Bookmaker.com seized!

Check it out, this domain has been seized by the US government, it is a legit business operating in Costa Rica, and rated A+ by SportsBookReview, so not a scammer of any sort.

And here is what US Bodog (another famous off-shore bookmaker) clients have received in their email, they are moving away from dot com and chose .eu :

As of today, Tuesday, May 24th, you will find Bodog at its new home: bodog.eu

You will find that all of your account information and any funds have automatically been transferred, and your account number remains the same. The website as well as all of our services remain the same too.

Why the move? The bodog. eu address gives our brand a more permanent home as we continue to expand into new markets. We also anticipate the industry will be subject to ongoing fluctuating market conditions and we want to ensure we are prepared to manage them without any interruption to your play.

If you have any questions about the new address, please feel free to contact our 24/7 customer service team at 1-888-263-0000 or service AT bodog.eu

This is bad for .com value and for the stability of the Internet as we know it.

Someday some big players such as google or the pirate bay, 4chan or whoever could push and support alternative DNS roots and all .coms could quickly become worthless

I wrote about that one on Monday the 23rd. It was part of a larger seizure of 10 gambling domains.

Google wouldn't do this. They have no issues with US control of .com.

You are giving too much credit to PirateBay and 4chan. Neither have the resources to do something like this. Each site profits little to nothing.

here's a scenario for the sake of arguing:

TPB gets its domain name seized, everyone is pissed off. They start supporting alternative DNS roots and domains, with the help of Anonymous etc.

Good content develops on these websites with alternate domain names, and a new search engine emerges that indexes that new content. What is Google gonna do? Index and link to that content, make a proxy to view it or support it on their free DNS servers.

Unlikely but not too far of a stretch IMO.

With all due respect.....you dont know what you are talking about.

I would suggest you do some research on why these companies are using alternate domains and then reassess your position.

Dot com value and the stability of the internet in general won't be affected by this :hehe:

I don't understand why google would as they already support 'search' in most ccTLD's

I wouldn't think the pirate bay or any other torrent pirate site could hide it's activities in any ccTLD, the law will catch up with them soon enough.

I don't think I completely understand this thread lol And it's been discussed in an earlier thread, anyway, so I'm closing this thing up.
