Hello,
I'm encountering an issue with .AI domain registrations: the registry mandates a minimum 2-year commitment, and no standard registrar appears to offer a 1-year option. This is frustrating for shorter-term needs. Has anyone come across a reliable, ICANN-accredited registrar that somehow accommodates 1-year registrations for .AI domains? I'd appreciate any recommendations, experiences, or workarounds—such as through resellers or special promotions—to avoid the full 2-year upfront cost.
Background Note: According to the .AI registry (managed by the Government of Anguilla), all registrations require a minimum of 2 years, with maximum terms up to 10 years in even increments (2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 years). This rule applies universally to avoid odd-year periods like 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 years. Reputable registrars like Namecheap, Dynadot, GoDaddy, Hostinger, and Spaceship all enforce this policy, with prices starting around $69–$80 per year (billed for 2 years minimum).
