Hi folks,

After building my initial portfolio of domain names, I got stuck with SEDO, to which I parked them all.

Now that bids for my domains start to appear, I consider that SEDO has a relatively high price list (10% fee) but most importantly, high minimum fees for other than the most wanted TLDs (100-150$).

The amount might seem small in the beginning, but if you get an offer in the range of 200$, almost nothing is left for you.

Are there companies with aftermarket services, that include escrow, with more attractive minimum fees? Of course, I consider parking to the new company obligatory

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I think Sedo's fees for the mainstream TLDs are reasonable. As for the more specific TLD keep in mind that there may be additional costs levied by the registry for change of ownership too. Check who (seller/buyer) will be responsible for these fees.
You can check Afternic for a comparison of brokerage fees. But Afternic is paid membership while Sedo is free.
What I would suggest is this: add the domains to your Sedo account but tick the checkbox which reads 'do not list the domains' for sale. So you can still park them at Sedo but there is no link for a visitor to make an offer.
They will need to use whois to contact you then and you will deal with them direct.
pros: you save the commission
cons: you need to process the transaction yourself and cover the risk, also some people prefer to bid (lowball) anonymously, that's why Sedo works
If it's just listing and selling your names you can do it yourself, but it's good having them listed at Sedo too for exposure.

Hi and thanks for your valuable answer. Since you've been so kind, I would also like to ask you about the procedure to sell domains on your own, I mean how to handle the risk of the buyer's payment.

Thanks

Document and keep the details of transactions in email and if you use Paypal, note the transaction details in Notes/Comments so if Buyer does a chargeback at later date you have have the info to submit to Paypal to support your case.

For transactions > $300 use a third party like Escrow.com or Moniker escrow services.

For known buyers like forum members I use paypal/moneybookers. Paypal is much used between us.
With paypal there is always a risk of charge back. For larger transactions use escrow as suggested by Ryan.
Of course there is small fee for escrow, offer to split the fee with buyer and include that cost in your final price.
