I just noticed the new sales page at sedo. It's nice with new added features.

There is a new option that links to the sellers entire portfolio and a new seller rating/activity feature. Anyone else see this yet?

I'm liking the new "price is too low" error message:

Your offer is too low.
Premium domain names typically sell for three or four-figure amounts, and sellers will simply not respond to a bid if it is too low. If you need help setting a price, you can request an expert Domain Appraisal.

Maybe that'll help sellers out a bit. :tu:

I do not like the star-rating system for "seller activity" and "buyer activity". I have three out of five stars, and I don't want someone I'm dealing with to think I'm a "three star" buyer or not 100% reliable. :|

I can't get to any domains at the moment - looking forward to seeing the changes though!

Perfectly agree with you. The rating system is very ambiguous, someone could think that a 2-3-4 star rating users are a bad sellers and don't make an offer

i dont like the star rating either- but, you can rate that feature- i just gave my opinion on it- if you dont like it, then say so and why to sedo via that button

Same here, but I'm only 1 of 5 stars. :| So sad. I thought I was efficient and professional in my dozen or so sales at Sedo.

I left my opinion as you suggested Smash. Hopefully they'll hear it and make adjustments. Other than the star thing, I'm liking the changes so far.

I rated that it sucked and makes me look like an Ebay seller.

2 stars, sheesh! lol

Agreed!

The Sedo star rating system is a disaster.

The new system only analyzes recent 6 months -- prospects will avoid sellers with less than 5 stars.

Sedo needs to purge this rating system ASAP.

I think anything is going to be an improvement on their previous system, At the moment I feel that sellers are at a complete disadvantage as they can't tell who's making the offer and can't cancel the offer without actually giving a price, they need to fix that.

It would also be nice if we had the choice to either show visitors stats or not which would probably help when it comes to enduser sales.

I just received an offer tonight and it now shows the country of origin, which in my case is a help as it gives me a little more to go on.

Meet the Buyer
Country of origin: Spain
Value added Tax (VAT) Status: Not Applicable
Sedo community member since: August 2008 < So, its probably not a domainer
Sedo buyer activity

I feel that the whole process could be better whilst still protecting sedo's interests.

if buyers and sellers communicate directly, the rating system is good, however, without dealing with the other side, how to rate and why?

4 stars here. What is that based on though? I rarely ever sell through Sedo...

i received this announcement via email

Hello William,

As a valued Sedo member we would like to take this opportunity to inform you of some new features on our website. After taking member comments and feedback into consideration, our team has updated the "Offer Details" page with new tools that will benefit both buyers and sellers. These updates include:

* A new, easier to read page design

* Seller's Value Added Tax status (if you are a buyer or seller based in the US, VAT does not apply to your transaction. VAT may apply if the seller is trading as a company which is VAT-liable, in European countries. If you are a seller trading as an individual, sales tax does not apply.)

* Month and year the seller created a Sedo account

* Seller's Activity Index on a scale of 1-5. The Seller Activity Index considers a member's transaction history and sales volume for transactions where the member was a seller.

* Buyer's Activity Index on a scale of 1-5. The Buyer Activity Index considers a member's transaction history and sales volume for transactions where the member was a buyer. The Buyer Activity Index, VAT status, and the month and year the buyer created an account will be available to a seller once negotiations begin.

* Amount of time domain has been listed at Sedo

Additionally, sellers now have the option to include links to offer pages of other domains they are selling or link to their entire portfolio through the offer description. Sellers can use this new feature to mention similar domains that may also be of interest to a buyer. In response to members' requests, buyers can now submit comments to the seller with their initial offer.

At Sedo our members' privacy is of the utmost importance. As always, your name and personal information will remain confidential and will not appear anywhere on our site. Our team is continually working to improve our website user experience, and we hope you will find the Offer Details Page updates helpful.

Best regards,

Your Sedo Team

This is something new to consider, they haven't updated their system since 2000? or is it 2003?

With my 1 star i rated "It doesn't add value"
They should either count total sell and buy.

They should just change the rating system to say how many successful sales youve actually completed through Sedo if they want to give some indication to the buyers on the "quality" of the seller, the star system is easily misinterpreted.

Totally agree with you, if rating will be based on successfully completed deals
it will be much better.

Anything that would discourage a buyer, that is not based on something that a reasonable, informed buyer would consider a negative, is SEDO simply hurting their own business. So the stars, which are not related to seller reliability, should go. Stars for buyers would identify domainers, but otherwise serve no function either.

And why tell buyers the date a domain was listed? Domains are not donuts! The only impact such knowledge would have is to discourage buyers from making an offer.

I often write a little sales pitch, trying to place some color on the domain and explaining its' uses. At the moment this is stuck at the bottom in the same typeface as the rest of the listing. People want unique information, not just boring stats. Bring the Seller's explanation to the top of the page and either put it in a box or change the typeface, to set it off.

What if it is a six figure domain?

I got a $160 offer on a .VC domain - after Sedo's commission I would have received $10. Yet $160 is a three figure amount.

they are simply just trying to sell domain appraisals- which again i think sucks because they are passig on their opinion of a price for a name, and a buyer may use that as the bible when making an offer

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw their new listing page. Since they initially rank people with a low number of stars the buyer is more likely to get an appraisal. I guess Sedo is trying to counter the effects of the recession.

They actually just sold a featured listing through all this to me. Now that we can link right to the rest of the portfolio, I have lots of increased exposure on my names for sale.
