Sedo v Afternic

I have about 40 domains at Sedo awaiting offers.
A couple of months ago I started an experiment regarding how many views I received on the offer pages. Because they were virtually non existant at Sedo, I paid for a featured category listing on one domain, and put links to the sedo pages on some of the domains.
The result was 35 views of offer on the featured domain, and about 15 views from the rest in the month that the feature lasted.

I listed about a dozen of these names at Afternic, without any promotion or linking, and in one month they have received over 100 views of offer.

This wasn't a controlled or well structured test by any means, but it definately shows that more people are going to view my domains at Afternic.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I suppose that is much more important to know the number of orders of your domain names then views

I look at results, not pageviews. I've sold at least 10 domains at SEDO, 2 in the last week. I've also had a few offers that never panned out. With Afternic -- even with paid highlighted listings -- I never had even one offer. I don't care for Afternic.

So I suppose SEDO is better, isn't it?

I hear of SEDO sales often but RARELY a sale from Afternic. Most ppl dislike it. I'm one of those ppl.

Well i'm thinking this way.

If a domain gets zero views on the best platform, then that must mean that you have zero chance of an offer.

If the domain gets 10 views on a mediochre platform, then you have 10 chances of an offer.

Well I suppose in the end it's up to the seller which platform they prefer to sell their domains!.

For me, my problem with Afternic is the membership fee that one has to pay for listing your domains for sale!.

AfterNIC is running some kind of sale waiving the membership fee right now, fwiw. Got an e-mail from them about it a couple of days ago. Offer expires 15 June iirc.

Unless all of these views are frustrated Afternic employees, looking at each of the offer pages over & over again, muttering "Why won't these darn things sell???"

I suspect most offer page views are other domainers - the type who won't pay more than $100. I set fixed prices so I no longer get these sort of offers but attempted lowball offers would still appear as offer page views. In the end the only result which matters is a sale. I have sold more at SEDO than Afternic but do have occasional sales at Afternic so it is another platform.

Frank. Care to share that email?

Although Afternic isn't very good at selling my domains. Haven't had an offer in a couple of years.

I'd be willing to list a few there, I suppose, if I could get a free account. But I have no real faith in them.

Filtering out the sales pitch:

For a limited time only, Afternic is inviting you to join at no cost. Call us now through June 15, 2010 and we'll waive the membership fee (a $19.95 value)!

To redeem your complimentary membership, contact [email protected] or call our Service Center at 1-866-830-6451 (US), +1 339-222-5139 (Worldwide) and mention this email offer.

There are no promo codes or anything like that mentioned in the mail, and nowhere in the mail does it mention me, my company or any of our domains by name; additionally, while nominally signed by the "national sales manager" of AfterNIC the message doesn't give me a specific name of anyone to whom I should speak. So it seems a reasonable assumption that when they say they are "inviting" me they mean "mass mailing."
