Anyone submitting their domains to Sedo's iGaming auction?

They rejected my PureGames / com. Can't say I'm surprised. Years ago when they had a dedicated co.uk auction they rejected Friendly/co/uk and SMC/co/uk.

Interested to hear from others what has and hasn't been accepted. Are you as surprised as me?

Do you agree with them?

Thanks

Submitted some names and they all got rejected, so I'm here to follow along to see what they really want over there at Sedo.... 🤷‍♂️

I think they want the best of the best, I submitted PokerNights.com which I just turned down $2,000 for and was willing to start with a reasonable reserve. I don't care because I love the name and Poker but I thought it was interesting.

PureGames.com is a solid name, I just think they want names like Roulette.com or PlayPoker.com stuff like that, it's just my guess.

im baffled by their selection process - Bookie/House & Betting/Up rejected ? wacky : (

I guess it is their auction expense, and to do what they want. but more money the better no ? bigger list = more sales.

Mine just got rejected too - both .coms - my betting app and omni bets. But I think I understand why now... If you look at your (rejection) email, you'll see they give you the reason (kinda - really high level but whatever). My reason was I didn't meet the "Quality Criteria". On the same email, they have a link to their criteria (https://sedo.com/faq/faq.php?faqid=1017) - To save you the effort, here it is:

Domains may be approved for GreatDomains Auction Events if:
  • The domain extension (TLD) of the domain is considered premium and has a history of high-value sales (such as .com, .net or .de)
  • The domain is generic, describing an existing product or service (e.g. like car.com, creditcard.com, or healthcare.com)
  • The domain is short, consists of an actual, real word, and is easy to remember
  • The domain is easy to spell and not prone to typographical errors
  • The TLD geographically matches the language of the domain name
  • The domain doesn't violate third party rights (e.g. trademark rights, intellectual property, or other famous names)
I haven't look it up, but I'm guessing that my names don't meet the first point. That's all I can figure. I need to research my domains to see if that's indeed the case. Anyway, I hope this helps.

You can see what's made it so far by going to the search page (search for anything) then leave the search field empty and from the filters choose only the iGaming auction.

I must say @Sedo what a great pick of domains you've chosen for this auction... That must be one heck of a random number generator you've got doing the selection for you.

You will probably laugh when you see. I know I did at the last gaming auction they had.

I've just seen what's already there at the moment haha seriously ? Even got .xyz in there. And they said mine didn't meet the criteria .
Think I've just been slapped in the face with a wet fish 😂

Rejected - quality requirements not met

This is what I saw for several times.... I think they want quality names to be included in the auction but you will be very surprised after checking out their final inventory for the auction.

For last time it was some names like

Nine years old..ten years old...thirteen years old...and so on...and also the same names with numeric in the number like 9yearsold...11yearsold...some 10 names like this!!

I was very confused what criteria followed to select these names...may be I am missing something here.

This was my surprise several times...and this is for all great domain auctions and dedicated theme auctions.

@Dave I think PureGames is a good name and definitely attracts multiple bids.

@equity78 PokerNights is a great name to go all in :)
I think it should be added to auction...

Thanks,
Ravi.

Hi all,

Firstly thank you for you interest in the IGaming and Gambling auction.

Please let me start by saying, available places in this domain auction are extremely limited and we can not accept every domain. We have already received thousands of applications with good domains and our sales specialists are still inundated with applications going through them one by one selecting the most appropriate domains.

The way our selection process works is as so, we allocate a certain amount of spaces for each reserve range, once they are full that’s it. This is so that all buyers with different budgets can take part in the auction and there are an equal number of differently valued domains.

Should a domain be rejected, we are not saying that it is not a good quality domain, it can simply be because either the keywords, reserve price or the TLD is not suitable, or that some are suitable and some not. For example, the name could possibly qualify but the sellers price expectation is not realistic. Domains could also simply be rejected due to the fact that we have already filled the reserved spaces that we have allocated for domains in that price range. Due to the sheer numbers of applicants, we are not able send a personalised rejection reason as to why a domain is rejected.

Domains which appear in our Themed Auctions are decided at the discretion of our sales specialists. Our specialists have many years of experience in the domain business, so it is possible for them to analyse which domains are most suitable based on the criteria and the spaces available.

All the best.

Chris

How come I always see much worse names in these auctions, than the ones people submit here?

I stopped submitting years ago, not willing to sell my good names for wholesale over there. I look forward to seeing the offerings of the willing sellers, which I hope won’t have wacky reserves.

Good luck to all that got accepted, by the looks of it just 1, and counting so far at namepros.

@Sedo can you explain the reason for the amount of bizarre extensions considering the limited spaces available

Which employee of the year approved Torontocasino.net with a reserve to boot,
Come on sedo lol this is a joke. You turned down better submissions than this.

Do they have a favored client list? Maybe they get more leeway then most......

I get that, but with such a narrow listing, and so many domains for sale across so many exchanges, you would think still to quality.

I have heard this argument before, and I believe it to be somewhat true, they probably want to keep some high commission accounts happy by unloading some of their tier 2 domains.

Like I look at this domain first off being a two keyword .net, you have lost 90% of your audience, secondly gaming is highly regulated in this region, can’t seeing many operators profiting as it is all about branding ie) Hard Rock, Wynn etc... and a non gaming location, as opposed to Vegas, Reno, Macau... doesn’t really fit the criteria test, along with a reserve to boot of $500-$999, you would think let it fly, take what you can get.

Hi

based on the limitations as described, I think the explanations for the rejections, is reasonable.
some may be setting reserve too high or submitting low quality domains.
guess it would be no different than a buyer seeking gaming names, but only looking to buy a few.

I've submitted names in the past to some of Sedo auctions
some got accepted, some rejected, but because of reserve, they didn't sell.

though disappointed then, some of them sold at higher prices years later.

on other hand, I've submitted names to auction, after getting offer.... and bid didn't go up much higher than original amount.

but it's no biggie, because I agree to accept what happens, before I take the action.

still, some names, I wouldn't bid on, even if there was no reserve,
and others I think shouldn't be in the auction, simply because they shouldn't be auctioned...
if/when auction = liquidation.

imo...

Can you send me all the buyers contact information that will attend the auction? I will send them my list of gambling domains myself. That is all I need from you. I would appreciate it. B-)

.

back in the day,
when poker/casino/gambling/slots. etc related domain names where earning tons of ppc $, all of mine where .net extension

so, from that perspective and by it being a geo location, I could see it getting approved.

maybe I can re-reg some of them oldies, for the future :)

imo….

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the many reactions to our iGaming auction, which we are looking forward to! Also, thanks for submitting your names, even when some were declined.

We can understand why some may be upset about the rejected names. We think the crucial information for understanding our selection process for this specific auction is that the target groups for these names are more specifically affiliates and companies active in the iGaming vertical. Based on our experience with them, we are giving more weight to the following criteria:

  • keywords (bet, slots, bingo...)
  • ccTLDs
  • reserve prices
  • languages
Some examples matching some of those: bestbingosites.com, gratispoker.no (great for the Norwegian market), bettingodds.io (no ccTLD, but great combination keyword)

We should have communicated this better upfront to make the selection process more transparent, and we apologize for the confusion caused.
