I wish we could educate the public to just do a whois on domains and contact the owner directly when negotiating a deal on Sedo. Just had a pretty rapid fire few rounds of offer/counter-offer from a buyer and now because he put a comment on the last offer Sedo will take "up to 24 hours" to review it and let me see what he had to say. FFS, quit treating your customers like children and let us communicate!

Just venting, but damn this is frustrating.

Do you think some folks (certainly not any Namepros members or domainers that are worth their salt, of course) - IF this line of communication was opened - might try to forego the commissions due to Sedo, IYHO? :|

Let's discuss ... :talk:

they're just playing safe to avoid losing commissions, esp. on first part of transactions. but they have a very slow ownership verification method.

Quite possible, but then they need to offer some value added service that makes us WANT to use them. Afternic don't censor comments and they seem to do ok. It's not like they can't _read_ them after the event and I'm sure if they see a pattern of me telling people to contact me directly and bypass Afternic I'll be out of there in no time.

my case: im the seller

:imho: i think only this further

09/13/06 We have invoiced the buyer for the sale of your domain. As soon as the payment reaches our escrow account we will inform you and begin the technical transfer.
09/13/06 We have received full payment for this domain. Please await further instructions from your transfer agent. It is often the case that we have to wait for certain details from the buyer so please be patient during this period.

you are able to get the contact information of the buyer from sedo but with your transaction status it's typical middle man policy not to give away contact information on both sides or they quickly get lost from the picture.

an invoice is a good hold on both parties.

Some buyers don't WANT to communicate directly. They may want anonymity of who they arefor pricing/negotiation reasons, want to use the escrow service for the trust basis, or want the transaction details kept confidential. Yes, a few just don't know how to use whois.

that's the nature of a middle party. Yes, they protect themselves from lost commissions, but also the parties from doing anything contrary to the escrow procedure or normal good negotiation statements. the quick drop down messages aren't moderated, and post immediately. Hopefully they would also translate if the parties spoke different languages.

Yeah, you cant blame Sedo for protecting their interests but it is frustrating.

In an ideal world you would be able to open up a live Chat session which is monitored later for irregularities.
All you would have to do is agree a time with the seller/buyer and go fron there.

DNI - Direct Negotiation Interface.

You heard it here first.... :)

You can't have both a 3rd party who receives commission form a sale, AND freedom of communication. Sedo's system works fine - for them or the buyer. For the seller, who's facing an anonymous buyer it's not ideal. Personally I simply ignore lowball offers. Several times a buyer will start a new round of offers with my previous amounts in mind.

if I want to buy a house, my broker is called "buyer agent" will get commission from the
sale. But my agent is supposed to negotiate the price and act on my behave. Certainly
sedo is not doing any of this but got bigger chunk of my money.
