As I said, Sedo should have followed the eBay model, which most people are familiar and comfortable with.

The eBay model is in patent litigation (some one else's patent).

"phizing" - been on eBay for three years and never heard of that. Google says it has something to do with "Relationships Between Cognitive Strategies of Adolescents" and "A continuous and general model for boron diffusion".

..... Somehow I do not think you mean that. Could you mean sniping? Sniping is bidding at the last second so than others will not be able to respond. I hate it myself. Ya either take your chances or trust a computer program.

They already have 7 domains with bids over $10000. A lot of good domains with 4 days to go. That's more than they had in the dnjournal last week. It definately a good start.

It really depends on what narrow improvement the patent covers. Most of the eBay model has been traditionally used for years and is prior art. I do not expect the basic eBay auction functions to be covered by the patent, as they are certainly not novel, much less non-obvious; or else the patent will likely be found largely or totally invalid upon challenge.

Just now took a look at Sedo Auction, the domain Reise-Shop.Com is due to close in about an hour.

Still, it shows just one bid, the original bid. In fact all the nearest-to-close six domains show just one bid each. This suggests that the auction feature has not helped improving the price of the 6 domains mentioned, at least not yet or not likely. This cannot be good news for the domain sellers.

The highest-bid domain, Tractors.Com stayed at $71,000 since 0:16 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006, and has not improved any further for more than 24 hours now. Again, not good.

Don't get me wrong. I wish very much the situation were different and that Sedo auction achieves a roaring success, which will lead to competition and increase of market share against the likes of SnapNames and Pool, causing the latter to offer auction to non-yet-expired domains and overall increased competition among the auction sites, including eBay.

Cool.

Sedo now puts an icon next to domains on auction that their reserve has been met.

Excellent idea. Nice work Sedo.

Now just make it so I can sort by auctions where the reserve has been met. ;)

I second that. It appears that Sedo has capable programmers who can implement new features rather swiftly.

Only 5 days and 12 hours left for my auction now. There are 103 visitors for the auction but none raise a higher bidding.

I will lost some Low $xx if the auction stopped by the initiation bidding. However, I would have has my expereince on Sedo Bidding :(

Not all names will get multiple bids, and to go to auction the seller takes the risk that the domain will sell at the reserve (a reserve set by the seller). I not only hope but also think the auction will be beneficial in the medium to long term because it will make prospective buyers realise they have to at least make a reasonable offer for the domains or see themselves outbid.

As with all auctions there are swings and roundabouts. I have lowered my reserves just to see what happens (including lowering the reserves to below previous offers I have rejected), I hope of course to make more money from the auctions and therefore this is a risk I am willing to take, but it is up to each individual to decide for themselves.

The domaining world is becoming more like the real world everyday!

I am sure a lot of people, especially the public, are not aware of the launch of Sedo's domain auction market.

Some good press at some major mainstream media should do wonders to increase public awareness and participation.

WSJ would be a great newspaper to start the PR campaign.

It is not about a narrrow improvement -- As I see it (granted it was 6 months ago when I read it) the patent was granted to MercExchange in the early years of the internet and prettymuch covers online auctions in general - and yes I agree it is an obvious innovation but I am not the judge or the patent office. Ebay has already been found to be infringing. The case has gone to the Supreme Court once already and the issue is now only should there be an injunction to prevent "buy it now" and (I think) other features, or can the judge place money damages on eBay and allow them to continue infringing without the patent owners permission.

It appears that early on eBay tried to buy the rights, owner would not sell at eBay's price so eBay went ahead anyway, without license. The recent Supreme Court decision caused a lot of concern because it seemed to say that that behavior is OK.

Here is one thread on the case, there are more:

It is right that every business is facing risk. especially for a new model.

I would not fear so bad even I lost money in the Auction. It is worthy of tring it as early bird :]

Just got offers myself on retirementplan.info and retirementplans.info. I made counter offers, but buyer made only slight increases in their offer. I decided to let the market decide if their prices are fair, which I guess is the purpose of the auction. We'll soon see what happens. If there are no other bidders, they original offeror gets a bargain. If other bidders appear, then the market decides what's a fair price.

As a seller, I think this may actually get sedo sale prices up in line with snapnames and pool auctions on drop catches. I like the idea.

Ok, I can update my Sedo Auction now :)

L2V.COM auction closed 12 hours ago and payment pending. The final bis is $510, which is better than I expected. (Hope the buyer is serious:) )

The history:
- Got an offer at $125, which is a little lower than the price I spent to buy the name 60 days before. The I started the Auction (I would lost some money if I didn't get any new Bids, but I decide to have try since I wanna to know more about Sedo Auction)

- NO bids in the first 4 days (Auction lasted for 7 days),I was a little worried.

- Got a bid at $135 on 5th day, a good signal

- Bids increased to $165 at 36 hours before the Auction closing

- Bids reach $375 at 60 minutes before closing, I was thinking about could it over $400 or not at that time :)

- Finally reach $510. Not bad!

So obviously the real buyers bid in last hours (I think they watch the Domain pricing daily, but later bids may help them avoid pushing the price too high...)

Now waiting for Payment (From buyer to Sedo/0. Hope the buyer is serious

This is my 1st Auction at Sedo. Looking for more chances in soon future :)

Infoicq, thanks for telling us how the bidding proceeded. I have 3 domains in auction, the first of which Zen.st went there after email offer, I informed the buyer I would accept the offer if he allowed it to go to auction, he did, his is the only bid to date with just over 2 days to go.

My other two domains, both adult .St prime domains I had turned down several offers for, all in $x,xxx, but none would go to auction format! I lowered the minimum offer and wham-bam both got offers on Sedo! Now one has been bid up from ยฃ350 to ยฃ500 (about$950) and the other has a single bid of ยฃ350 (about $633), nail biting time now as only 4 and 5 days to go respectively.

I have to admit at the moment I feel pretty down, thinking who is buying? Is anyone buying? But reading your report of the bidding pattern has at least allowed me to not be too concerned yet (which is good because I'm waiting for some nails to grow back :) ).

At the end of the auctions I too will post how bidding went, if there is anymore bidding that is! No seriously though I will, the sooner we all get a feel for how successful/unsuccessful this Sedo auction is the better.

Again many thanks Infoicq.

Congrats, infoicq.

Less than 3 days left on mine with no additional bids. There do appear to be a lot of lookers though based on the counters. Hopefully it will get some sniper bids in the last hours like most ebay auctions get. <fingers crossed>
