Sedo Auction Approval Patterns This Month — Anyone Noticing Trends?

I’ve been watching Sedo’s approval behavior a little closer this month and decided to test a mixed batch of submissions to see what actually gets through.

Nothing scientific — just a variety of categories (brandables, AI terms, consumer names), plus a range of reserve levels to see if that plays a role as well.

From the batch I submitted, these four were approved for the December auction:
  • PerfectTune.com
  • BabyGrips.com
  • TechBotAI.com
  • GeekyCat.com
(Not sharing this as a promo — the auctions are live already — just using them as the actual data point.)

What I’m trying to understand is whether Sedo is leaning toward certain styles recently, or if it’s still pretty random from batch to batch.

For those of you who submit regularly:

Are you seeing any consistent patterns with Sedo approvals lately?

Do certain types of names seem to get picked more often?
Or, does reserve pricing appear to make any difference in approval success?

Curious what others here are noticing.

Well I noticed metaglasses dotai, registered this year, Sedo accepted 5,000-9,999USD reserve, it is practically waiting for _ _ _ _.

Interesting example — thanks for sharing that. Cases like this make Sedo approvals even harder to decode, especially when a newly registered name receives such a high reserve range.

It does seem like Sedo occasionally approves names with a very specific niche angle or future-trend potential, even if the registration date is recent.

This is exactly why I wanted to open the discussion — sometimes the logic feels predictable, and other times it really doesn’t.

It would be great to hear if anyone else has seen similar “unexpected approvals” in recent batches.

Maybe try presenting your batch of names to a LLM and ask it to pick "great domains", then compare the results.

That’s actually an interesting angle. LLMs tend to surface patterns based on large datasets, so comparing Sedo’s human curation with an AI-generated “shortlist” could highlight where the overlap is — or how differently machines and marketplaces evaluate naming quality.

What I’ve seen so far is that Sedo approval often leans toward specific brandable characteristics or trend categories, while LLMs sometimes over-value literal keywords or semantic relevance.

Might try running a small test to see the contrast.

It would be interesting to hear if anyone here has already experimented with "AI-vs-Sedo" selection.

There's also another candidate for UDRP, uberits .com (cf. Uber Eats), registered a month ago, reserve 1000-4999 USD.

I think Sedo's employees are just trolling at this point. Of course nobody cares, because the whole auction is:

oneoppurtunity .com, current offer 99 USD, reserve met

Pure madness. But congrats to @Haroon Basha :xf.smile:

@NameGroove , Sedo's auction team would have accepted your lauch dotnow with open arms (but it's probably dropped by now).

"erotica dot es" approved vs "eroticas dot net" disapproved. This is how 'weird' Sedo's auction approval process is.

I agree with Sedo's decision here.
