Sedo appraisal fees. What are your thoughts?

Am I correct in understanding that Sedo requires you to pay for an appraisal fee if you'd like to price your BIN on their marketplace higher than $10,000?

If I am correct in understanding this requirement, what are your thoughts on this? If I've misunderstood their policy, please tell me what is the course of action for getting an appraisal and moving forward with pricing a BIN above $10k without paying any fees (if possible). I haven't really focused my efforts on marketplaces and still have some learning to do.

I see the relationship between domain sellers and the Sedo marketplace as a partnership, so it feels like a conflict of interest, but I'm open to other view points on this subject. It's not uncommon for marketplaces to charge for extra features and services, but to require a fee before placing the price that you want is a bit annoying.

At the end of the day, I do understand their Sedo's need to prevent unrealistic sellers from overpricing and dragging the quality of their marketplace down...

Please do share your thoughts.

price as "make offer"

and if you ever get an offer, then you can counter with your 10K or higher price.

I agree wih biggie. Price at Make Offer. Paying for domain appraisal does not make sense. It is a total waste of money.

They tell buyers not to offer their best price in their FAQ
They don't share any info about the buyer with you
Most sales happen from the parking page link and not from searching millions of listings there so basically they take a cut from your sale when your domain directed the offer there

Where's the partnership?

Sounds like years of domainers parking with them for peanuts drove the leads to create their market.

Better off creating your own site or using someone like DomainNameSales which gives ya name, email, ip address, phone, etc... so negotiations aren't blind.

I use Sedo but everything I set make offer and they have never been my primary sales force as I prefer having info on buyers as it makes negotiations more successful.

I also agree with most others here. Use the make offer option instead.

Yeap, agreed. Go for make offer. The appraisal from Sedo is another way they earn some of their $$

You can set a minimum amount on make offer. Want a high price? Set currency to GBP, set min offer at £10,000, counter any offers (!) with whatever price you like.

So at the very least your domain would sell for around $16,000.
