Sedo commission fees

Hi Guys,

I may be about to sell a name through Sedo, and have been checking their commission fees.

Am I right in thinking that they both charge the buyer 10% of the sale price and skim off 10% in their payout to the seller? That would make a 20% total commission on the sale!

Or is it that their charges are 10% - payable by either buyer or seller as mutually agreed?

Places like escrow.com would appear to charge much less.....

You as the seller pay 10% of the final end sale price to Sedo with a minimum commission fee based on domain extension as outlined on the Sedo.com website.

If your domain is parked at Sedo you only pay a 10% commission regardless of the amount of the sales price for your domain.

Only the seller pays a commission.

Perhaps the buyer could also pay the commission but that would be something to be agreed upon and discussed beforehand.

which refer to a 'domain brokerage service'.

The 10% fee applies to common TLDs like .com .net etc
For more exotic TLDs the fees are higher.

The minimum commission varies on extension as can be seen in the price list i copied from Sedos website,

And when the domains are parked with Sedo you don't pay a minimum only the 10% commission.

Listing domains on Sedo is absolutely FREE! There are no membership fees and you don’t have to pay to list your names. You will only have to pay our commission (normally 10%) if you make a successful sale. How much you will be required to pay depends on the TLD and whether your domains are parked with us. If your domains are parked with Sedo, you will have to pay no minimum commission on the majority of TLDs. Commission is set at a flat 10%.

If you domains are not parked with us, our commission is still 10% but for most TLDs, we charge a minimum of 50 $/€/£.

For all prices, you can have a look at our pricelist. This fee includes a range of services including the final transfer of the domains via our escrow service.

I think on Sedo above a certain dollar amount the buyer will pay an additional credit card fee if using that method of payment.

The 10% fee is only for domains sold at Sedo. If you have an agreement and only use Sedo Escrow the fee is 3% with the same minimums.

Sedo Escrow is cheaper than Escrow.com.

Sedo Escrow also offers better safety. Sedo have both money and domain in hand. Escrow.com only takes care of the money. If the seller changes whois Escrow.com assumes the buyer has control of the domain name and releases the funds.
