Evening ladies and gentlemen,

i think that it would be very nice if a search feature for private messages is implemented.

this comes very handy with the hundreds of incoming and outgoing mail.

Also, it would be useful if this search would let the user specify if he wants to search the inbox or sent items or both.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I second that!

microdude431 would you not be better actually deleting the ones you no longer need?

I have 98 in my inbox and I consider that way too much.

It is a decent idea and could be good but I personally think it could make people lazy and not bother deleting their pm's.

You have 1480 messages stored, of a total 1500 allowed. :guilty:

PM's are like domains.......I'm a collector. Guess it is time to download :td:

It's not like it's unlimited Peter. there is a quota fo 1500, so using it up or keeping it at 0 is no big difference. also, i personally like to save pms related to sales so that i can keep record and track.

Not quite true. The difference is the space and resources required by the server to store these messages.

1 or 2 people having that many messages may make no odds but what if say 500 or 1000 people have that many.

I would find a search function useful as well. What I usually end up doing is downloading my PM box contents to a .TXT or .CVS file and searching on my local computer.

There are 461,670 private messages in the NamePros database now. Its quite large considering our public forum only has around double that amount. I'm not sure what it would take to make the PM's searchable without bringing down the server resources. Can't promise anything at this point, but I will look into it when I get some time.

go to your private message list.

check the box of the ones you wish to download, then in the pull down menu choose download as (there are 3 xml, text or csv).

You can also download all messages at once. When in your private mail box, look for the link at the bottom that says "Download all Private Messages as : XML | CSV | Text" and click one of the options.

PM's are a pain in the ass. I actually saw the download options several times and for some reason never thought of using it. It is annoying to look through PMs one by one (I've had to do it before). Maybe it's something to suggest to VBulletin for a future release.
