both and add social bookmarks
getting "huge traffic"?
you need to deploy everything in the power of the internet:
articles, forums, sigs, blogs, socials, social networking sites such as myspace, friendster, orkut, etc. word of mouth, conventions, stickers, flyers, newspaper ads, online news ads.

Those directories can help improve your page rank with places like Google, Yahoo and MSN Live. Let me explain why ...

You create a website, it hasn't been around to long so it doesn't get the bonus of "age". Yes, some search engines are now giving a slight bonus with the age of your domain name.

The search engine indexes all the pages in your site and let's say they find your site to be relevant for the keyword Puppies.

When people go searching for puppies, Google knows your site has some data about puppies but they don't really know you well enough to know how great your site is about puppies so it gets a low ranking.

One day the Google spider is out doing its normal updates and all of the sudden it sees that DMOZ has now listed your site. If DMOZ trusts you enough to list you then Google now gains a little more faith in your website.

Some time passes and Google (Yahoo or MSN Live) see that you have a listing in the Puppy Directory, and google gives them a page rank of 5/10 and that means that Google now gives you a little more trust.

As each of these things take place, more and more people are searching for Puppies and find your listing in Google, which has now risen from page 237 to page 6 or 7. The person searching for puppies finds your page pretty interesting and spends 23 minutes on average looking through all your content.

For the most part people who come to your site from Google love your site (ie: you have a very low bounce rate - below 50%) and then that means google now really has more faith in you and in time your listing goes from page 6 or 7 to page 2 or maybe even page 1!

The point is that whether you realize it or not, everything works together ... so keep the quality of your site design high, make sure your keywords are relevant to your content, get listed in every search engine you can and try and get a few directory listings as well.

I agree both are good.

But, If you can submit it to the directories then there is no need to sumbit it to the search engines. :) The search engines will pick it up from the directory listings.

You don't need to submit to search engines like Google, Yahoo at all. Directories are OK but not great.

Search Google for articles about link building and read them.

Search engines for traffic - directories help with the former. Very few if any directories will send you any real traffic. Oh they claim they will but the vast amount of them will send next to nothing. I have many directories and say this openly.

Search engines for traffic and directories for backlinks=PR

It's not easy to get traffic from most directories out there. Too many people started their own directory with the only intention of selling links.

Personally, I hardly ever search for information on directories, except dmoz or a few other like this.
