Domain Empire

Say goodbye to Overture as we know it

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
I've seen this mentioned in another thread but wasn't sure if this is common knowledge or not. It looks like WordTracker will be getting a subscription boost.

http://domainnamewire.com/2007/01/09/the-death-of-overture/

To summarize: Exact figures for search terms will be phased out and replaced by a popularity bar. This will make the "Overture + extension" indicator a thing of the past.

These are what you plan to add? or data from these search engines is currently searchable in the tool? What is the tool currently searching?

Because I searched for "wii" and didn't come up with much, so that would seem to indicate the data sourced is pretty old.

Check now, we was not using the good data set.
Look likes we plug this beta in a server too much overloaded...

I keep getting a timeout error:

msxml4.dll error '80072ee2'

The operation timed out

/search/Default.asp, line 81

I just tried it with google.com and it came back with
Monthly Search Popularity Results
Searched keyword: google.com

No results found.

I like the idea of your service though.

Inventory.overture.com was one of the tools I used most, but that's life.

Cybertonic, seems a good tool, but your server is really overloaded. I also got:

msxml4.dll error '80072ee2'
The operation timed out
/search/Default.asp, line 93

But then I tried again and it worked :) Two thumbs up!

I still not move it to load balanced severs but it has been a bit optimized.
Let me know if you get again these msxml errors.

By the way I get today the approval to run the tool.

Now I need to determine how much I should charge monthly.
I would like to offer it free, the problem is we pay for:
- The data (for each search).
- The servers and bandwith.
I do not mind no make benefices but I cannot be losing money.
Which pricing do you consider as fair?

What about offering it now free for a certain number of NP members to help you beta test and later start charging?

Then a price on serch volume would be probably the best. Something from $10 to $50 a month.

A free option with just a couple of searches per day to attract new members would help as well.

Yes, I do not think I will charge imediately, and after I will probably follow your idea.
Thanks Brilliant.

If I were you I would begin contacting the owners of all of the keyword research software programs and offer them access to your data for an agreed price. Many of these programs were heavily dependent on Overture data and now they're scrambling for another source.

In turn, you could keep your site free, which will do wonders for traffic, and earn additional revenue through affiliate deals with those same keyword research software developers. The potential market is much, much larger that the domain segment. Most online marketers used Overture in some way.

I've used a wonderful piece of software for awhile now and have occasional correspondence with the developer. If you'd like I could direct him to your site. I know he's looking for a new solution.

Cybertonic, I would have 2 memberships:

- free and limited, advertising based, but with needed registration to build a good userbase to upsell someday.

- paid membership

I can give more specific suggestions if you need. Just pm me.

PopularSearches.com

PopularSearches.com has been working well today. I like it! I'd be more than willing to see some ads with a free version and would be happy to register to use it. I'm surprised Overture didn't capitalize on it in this way.
