lotsa crap flying around with scammers ;-(
now, this wont help if the domain has actually been stolen but- if it has not and some fool is posting a name he does not own for sale here- we should get in the habit of a simple email verification first.

before paying the person simply say you are going to send an email to the email in the whois, and expect them to respond.

now again, this is just for a few scammers- wont help if the domain was stolen and actually in his account- but it might help those few who go around posting names to sell that arent theirs at all and are trying to take the money and run-

if this has been posted before- sorry! i didnt catch it first time around

Sometimes a broker has the o.k from domain owners to list their domains for sale on multiple sites. In this case, the broker should state this fact. Just something else to look for.

But anyone can say he is a broker who is brokering the sale of a domain for the actual owner. It doesn't make it true just by stating it.

Exactly. How would you be able to make sure that the person is an actual broker & not a scammer?

I guess you could still contact the whois of the domain name for sale and ask them to confirm that they are using a broker and the brokers name. If is seems phishy at all, dont do it.

Or the DNOA. I would really like to see the DNOA start to grow a bit more, personally.

:hi:

You cannot just open or offer an Escrow service.

It's a highly regulated industry and NamePros would have to obtain licensing.

Since NamePros members live all over the USA ,NamePros may have to
be licensed in multiple States.

Some of the filing requirements:

  • Financial Resources
  • Bonding requirements
  • Background checks
  • Full-time experienced Escrow Manager

This is the reason GoDaddy did not get licensed as an Escrow service
for their TDNAM domain aftermarket. (this was told to me by a GoDaddy VP).

From Escrow.com:
https://www.escrow.com/resources/escrow_license.asp

"Internet Escrow Services at Escrow.com is fully licensed and accredited as an escrow company

Government agencies perform regular audits of independently licensed escrow companies. The audit examinations serve to protect public funds, determine safety and soundness of operations and determine compliance with escrow statutes and regulations.

Escrow.com is also licensed in other states in accordance with our business practices."

So you see...It's a nice thought but...
