that icon annoys me. how do i turn it off?

left click it for 5 seconds and then click safely remove 'blahblah' .

But if you'll do it, you'll either lose connection to a device that is connected to your usb port.

Right-click on your task bar somewhere. Click the Notification Area tab, then click the Customize button. Find "Safely Remove Hardware" and click Hide.

It doesn't work either.

Other day I clicked to safely remove the hardware, I unplugged it and it dropped on the floor and broke. In my mind that isn't very safe and the outcome would have been just the same if I had decided not to safely remove the hardware.

I complained to Microsoft but they deny its a bug with their software.

Why would you want to not safely remove your hardware? Not doing that can cause filesystem corruption (on a USB hard drive) if you're unlucky.

I barely ever use that. :D I just make sure no applications or documents are open and then pull it out of the usb port. :D I'm THAT suicidal.

Hm, I may just be paranoid because I'm from Linux-land where unsafely removing a device is almost guaranteed to cause problems.

hey guys. i just want to clarify the solution.. assuming your running windows xp..

click control panel - taskbar and start menu -

under the taskbar tab (which is what appears by default) you'll see a "customize" button on the lower right. click that

under "current items" click on the specific icon that you want, and the options it will give you are "always hide," "hide when active," or "always show"
