RYL.net sells for $9450

HI All

I was just checking sales of sold domains on afternic.com and found RYL.net sold for $9450 being a 3 letter .net with a Y in it seems a bit much, But one never knows I guess if you are at the right place at the right time you may get your asking price.

That brings me to another question what should ones asking price be for a domain listed on afternic.com or sedo.com should one always over price their domains or just list them at a price they are willing to sell at.

Any comment would be great,

Thanks
Tom Dahne

Agree, this one appears to be out of the norm for three-letter ".NET" pricing, IMHO ... and only one (1) offer for that $9,450.00. Perhaps there will be more on this in the next issue of the "recorded sales" at the DNJ. :talk:

I would state, generally, that in order to sell more domains, one ought to price them at levels that they are willing to accept versus overpricing them in the hope of the results in the example above, in my view. Taking domains directly to relevant End users - at End user pricing - would be ideal, too.
Just my two sense.

Wow, that's quite a bit for a 3 letter domain name which in fact is also a .net

Oh,my god,.....I think maybe the buyer and seller have agree on this price before the buyer list the name on afternic.com.
And the seller go to afternic.com to buy it.

well this is more than the domain should sell for, but I bet that the buyer wanted it because ryl is alot like royal, and they probally have a business with the word royal in it?

I OWN RYL.US AND HAVE OFFERED IT FOR SALE ON HERE BEFORE FOR NOMINAL AMOUNTS THINKING IT WAS WORTHLESS, THEN I AM LOOKING ON WWW.AFTERNIC.COM TODAY AND SAW THAT SOMEONE HAD BOUGHT THE RYL.NET FOR 10K!
IT WAS BY A COMPANY CALLED "PLANETWIDE GAMES" http://www.planetwidegames.com
THEY JUST RELEASED THE BETA VERSION FOR THIS HUGE ONLINE FANTASY GAME CALLED "RYL" (RISK YOUR LIFE)! WHEN I CALLED THEM TODAY THEY SAID THE CEO WAS TRYING TO REACH ME AT AN OLD EMAIL ADDRESS FOR MY DOMAIN NAME SINCE THEY WANTED THE .US DOMAIN! ALSO I LOOK UP "RYL" ON THE INTERNET AND ITS THE STOCK TICKER SYMBOL FOR RYLAND HOMES AND ALSO THEIR ACRONYM! A FORTUNE 500 COMPANY! (#481) WWW.RYLAND.COM
I SPOKE WITH THE MARKETING ASST. AND THEY ARE GOING TO CONSIDER BUYING IT AS WELL BEFORE THE SOFTWARE COMPANY GETS IT! HOW MUCH SHOULD I ASK AND WHAT IS A FAIR PRICE FOR THE .US DOMAIN GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES? ALSO IS THERE ANY POTENTIAL CYBER-SQUATTING ISSUES HERE?, I INTENDED THE DOMAIN TO MEAN "REFINANCE YOUR LOAN"..ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE? :? :? :? :?

THANKS AHEAD OF TIME!

CHRIS :kickass:

Thanks a lot, I've lost this one since my vacation!

Nothing at the RYL.net site, as yet. Is there more information posted about this sale that I may have also missed, if you know?

RYL.us was sold? To the same buyer of RYL.net? How much, if you can share?
Thanks, kindly.

Congrats on the sale!!

Excellent! :tu:
Do you know for how much, by any chance (if this information can be shared)? Looks like the Whois has not yet updated on the ".US" (to match that of the ".NET") at least according to Whois.sc at the time of post.

From the seller himself, "Low X,XXX" if that's some indication to go by.

Try to set them at around the level you wish to take. You dont want to scare away potential customers with high pricing

i definitely think that nearly $xxxxx is a lot for a 3 letter .net especially one iwth a y in it

That's funny.
You see the point about different values on different letters is this:

The worse letters have a worse opportunity for an end user sale.

But when the end user *needs* XPW.com, he needs that name.

and ABC.com means nothing to him because he needs that name XPW.com

There are many more potential end users for abc.com however in an end user sale, you don't gauge by the quality of letters.

Thats why it got so high. The previous owners knew that they really needed the domain.
