Hi all

my first post on here - nice site - great resource


OK my question

I have found what i think is great .com
Its map related and easy to remember and not registered!

BUT - i did a search for trademarks in the US and its not registered. i did a search in the UK and it is a registered trademark and the name of a piece of software. doing a UK google search only brings up about 80 pages.

Do i get the .com?
Does the software company have a right to this name if the trademark is in the UK and the .com i generally seen as american?

i think you get it. afterall you're might be far from the UK. They should have reg it from the first place. Go ahead, reg it. You'll never go to jail just for doing so.

I believe they can only come after you if you are using the domain as a competetitor to the trademark holder.

As long as you do nothing to do with software, it should be fine. Making a map site would probably be fine.

They can only do anything about it if you where in direct competetitor and also if its in another country and they have not registered that trademark there then they would have to prove that thier trademark is known and used there..

But besides that i would just go ahead and register it..
