Prize : $100.00 - (Paypal)
Contest End Date & Time : 6.00PM GMT : October 13 (Wednesday)
Size Requirements : 400 X 300
Color Requirements : black, grey, brown – something like that
Title: FlyingDutchman.com

General Requirements :
Flying Dutchman is a ship – the legend is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Dutchman
We will use this picture for landing page (actually there would be NO page – only this picture)
The picture must be beautiful, professional and "serious" - I mean not funny

HOW we see it:
β€’ Probably black, grey etc. background
β€’ In the middle of the picture is picture of a SHIP (oldstyle ship, not the modern one).
β€’ Near the SHIP the name of domain – FlyingDutchman.com
β€’ Text – Contact us

If you see it without the ship - show your samples too.

That’s all :)

Any questions – please ask :)

Thanks, Nick

P.S.
Very important thing! When you will submit your samples, please don’t ask what I like or what not, because I will not ask you to make changes – for me is a most important YOUR VISION. So I really can’t answer what I like, what – don’t. I like things just because :)
Your samples are final! There could be some samples from the one guy – but they are final.

Thanks ScorpionAgency for the start! Appreciate it :)
I like your work, but I see the whole thing a bit different.

Guys, I want to show an example of a style (just a style) of the whole concept. It's the website of ToiletMonster - pej.com
I'm talking about the style and color schemes are also ok for me.

From what i understand as a landing page.. you need a big picture that can cover complete browser page or at-least browser width on 800x600 res. that's how landing pages work, and you need art drawing picture or manipulated picture work with a ship in the sea and the details you mentioned. an artwork.

please correct me. if I am mistaken.. and if that's what you mean. i will try to post a entry later.

Yes you're right, but it doesn't need to be a big picture really, it could be just a normal size picture in the center and everything else would be just background. And the ship not necessary must be in the sea, it's flying dutchman :)

Look here http://volna.co.uk/ - it's not a landing page it's a website, but the idea is the same - centered something and background.
Our picture doesn't need to be as big as Volna - it must be smaller, but it is the idea how I want to situate a picture.

400 x 300 would be GREAT (updated the auction rules with that info)

Thanks, Nick

Hi webpaolo.

Yes I like your idea. The atmosphere is OK, colors also.
Don't think that clouds are necessary cause the ship is flying but not it the clouds.

But need to see the samples of other members.

Thanks for input, Nick

P.S.
But as I understand the image of the ship is not created by you, probably it's not allowed by the forum rules.

"But as I understand the image of the ship is not created by you, probably it's not allowed by the forum rules."

I think in this case, it should be fine, this not a logo, this falls more into the web design category, so the use of stock images "as long as the rights are owned, or may be purchased" is acceptable.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.. ;)

I'm actually trying a vector style, but I may pull into Photoshop for the desired effect I'm looking for. So on that note, I'm a day or so out of posting it.

Cheers, and good luck everyone.

Thanks guys for your inputs again.

I understand how hard is to draw your own ship (scorpionagency thanks for your tries) and not to use exciting pictures, so decided NOT require the ship in my project.

I want to have original and professional picture, so maybe you could use not a SHIP but for example SAIL or something ship related.

If you could draw your own ship, please do it, but if no - try to use another details. Or it could be symbolic ship.

The main idea is that it must be serious, stylish and professional.

Flying Dutchman is a kinda serious legend, it was one of the last things people saw in their life.

It's a ghost ship...

No, it's not fine. The rules state:

"ALL WORK MUST BE ORIGINAL, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED BY CONTEST HOLDER"

"Use of Stock Images

The use stock images (including google images) or any other image you do not own the rights to use IS NOT ALLOWED unless you can prove to a member of staff that you do own the rights, so please check you're licenses carefully whether you have bought one or not, even paid licenses sometimes have restrictions.

If you suspect anyone is using stock images please hit the report post button, violation of this rule will result in a copryight violation infraction being issued or you may even be banned and there are NO EXCEPTIONS!!!"

These are DESIGN CONTESTS and not web design or logo design so it makes NO difference.

Just clarifying here ;) Thanks

Thanks catfish for your work - it's really very good!
But at that moment the scorpionagency's last sample with a sail is my favourite.
IMO it's very stylish!
