Type of Contest: Logo design
Prize: $30
Contest End Date & Time: Wednesday June 27th, 11:59pm EST

After running this successful contest last month, I need another logo for a job-related website. The name of the website is:
name3.jpg

***NOTE TO DESIGNERS: Please do not write the website name above in this thread. I don't want it to get crawled by search engines.***

HERE is a link to my site layout. The logo will go in the upper-left as indicated.

Size: No specific size requirement, but it will be positioned in the traditional upper-left corner of our website (see my site layout).

Color: Use blue as the primary color, but the use of other colors as appropriate is OK too. The logo will be positioned against a dark grey background (see my site layout), so it should either:
(a) use lighter colors OR
(b) if it's going to be darker, then it should have light edges or shadow effect so it stands out.

Description: You don't need to use any job-related pictures or clipart...the logo doesn't need to be anything more than a stylized version of the site name:
name3.jpg

Just like these popular logos, for example, don't use any descriptive pictures...just a stylized version of their site names:

Lastly, for your submissions, please show them against the dark background that I use in my site layout here, so that I can get a good idea of what the finished product will look like.

Thanks, all for the submissions. First, some general feedback that applies to all entries.

1) I should have been a little more clear about how the name of the site should be pronounced. The "str" is not short for "street". It's supposed to be pronounced as though it's all one word that rhymes with "lobster" or "mobster". So I didn't like entries that drew attention to the separation between the "Job-" and the "-ster". For example, Waardii's entry puts those two parts of the site name on different lines of text which discourages the correct pronunciation. I want to look at the logo and immediately think of it all as just one word (that rhymes with 'lobster'). I think the best way to accomplish this is to keep all of the text on one line, and the letters "-obster" in lower case. The "J" can be either upper or lower case, I don't care.

2) I preferred the softer tones of blue (like those in Scorpion's design) rather than the loud, neon colors (like those in nguyen's).

Here's some specific feedback

@nguyen: As I wrote above, not crazy about the neon blue, and there's too much conceptual separation between the "Job-" and the "-str"

@matt0216: not bad, but not crazy about the skinny font, and the capitalization of the STR I think discourages the correct pronunciation, as noted above.

@scorpion: I like the muted blue color, as I said. The guy with the briefcase makes it a *little* to "corporate", but I like the creativity.

@bypk: I like your thought of incorporating a tie into the O; not crazy about the pocket protector image, though. And in your 4th image, the tie makes the "T" look too much like an "i", so I don't like it there. And in your 2nd image, the "T" is kind of ambiguous too.

@mst1: I like yours. Get rid of the red dot, though. And make the oval a softer grey/white, and the blue a little softer too. And I like your font...but there's something I'm just a little uncertain about. Some of the letters are a little "stubby"...like the "J", "S", and "R" aren't very wide...rather they're cut off, which makes me wonder whether new visitors to the site will read the site name properly. I know that's just the style of this particular font, so I'm not sure you can do anything about it, but in general I like yours.

@matt: not crazy about the little smiling face or the font you use in the first one...and I get that the 2nd one is supposed to be a street sign, but as I wrote above, the pronunciation we're going for is one rhyming with "mobster" rather than Job *Street*

@waardii: made a comment above.

@gcttirth: putting the "Jobs" in blue discourages correct pronunciation, imo

@mosesoliver: note sure what the checkmark / smiley thing is supposed to be...hopefully the feedback I gave to others above will help.

B]@scorpion[/B]: I like the muted blue color, as I said. The guy with the briefcase makes it a *little* to "corporate", but I like the creativity.

Another concept idea
Less corporate and more playful (E.G. drooling over the great job opportunities)

Hi how abt this

@mst1: Can you make the white oval much softer?...like, a lighter grey so that it's not so 'loud'; also try using a paler blue for the text (like from Scorpion's first entries)

@mst: perhaps I'm not being clear enough with what I'm asking...you see the white oval? I'd like that to be "less" white...I don't like how strongly the white contrasts with the dark grey background, which is why I was saying in earlier feedback to make it a softer grey. But it looks like the color of the oval has stayed constant in all of your designs.

@mst & everyone else:
- As I indicated in my first round of feedback, I'd like the "obster" letters to be in lower case. Not caps. As far as whether the "J" should be in caps, it depends on the font.

@blueorange: not bad, but your designs -- especially the font you use -- is a little to block-y / tech-y. Want something a little more fun. But you've got the right idea that it should just be simple letters with some simple geometric lines or shapes to give it some 'personality'. But as I wrote, the letters "obster" should be lower case.

@matt0216 These are a little too plain...they seem to mostly be just the letters (with some of them underlined)...can you give it more personality, even if it's just by way of a background shape like mst's, or a gradient like blue orange uses?

@bypk Still hoping to see a round of revisions from you, incorporating this feedback and also what I wrote specifically about your designs further up in this thread.

@scorpion: I think you went a little too far in the other direction:) The drooling is a little too off-topic...our site will be job-related but not necessarily one that lists/advertises jobs.

Summing up my thoughts to this point, I still consider this contest to be wide open...I suspect the ultimate winning design will be one that incorporates the following elements:

- The site name in a fun font; here are some free ones I experimented with and liked: SV Basic Manual, Cooper Black, Optimus.
- a lighter blue color scheme, perhaps with an appealing gradient applied
- some sort of stylistic "personality", either in the form of a background shape (like with Mst1's), or lines/underlining like in blueorange's design...the more i've seen the "fun" options (like the drooling/briefcase guy from scorpion's designs), the more I've shied away from them.
