Type of Contest : Background Image Modification & LOGO Design
Prize : $100.00. Yes, I'm willing to separate out the logo from the background, but in this case, they are somewhat dependent. Technically, there are two backgrounds needed, but we'll start with the main header and see how it goes. I may do a bonus for the footer background. If tackled separately, the logo submissions must give consideration to the look of the template referenced below. Separately: $40 logo, $60 background.
Contest End Date & Time : Thursday, October 15th, 5pm PST EXTENDED THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING. Decision on Sunday am, 10/18 around 10am PST.
Size Requirements : Background image: 1600 x 955 -- require layered PSD file; Logo: 300px (or 400) x 100px (depends on background somewhat).
Color Requirements :This is to replace an existing template background image that already has the color scheme identified.
General Requirements : This is for a brand new site that only has demo content in it right now. It is a Joomla CMS site. I'm using this Rockettheme template which you should see in action here: Infuse Template (you must go to the "preset styles" variations and select Style 2, which is a burgundy theme) because this is the feel I am going for, only tailored to my site, of course.
I am looking for the same 'look' and 'color feel' and 'object balance' as the background from this template. It is a sophisticated Fireworks document (included in my work package).
Additional Information : I am not looking for 'cutesy,' I'm going for a sophisticated yet fun and professional feeling -- first class. I do need to appeal to the kid market, but make adults feel good, too.
I was hoping to get the photo of the guinea pig with shopping cart included in the logo (see work package), but I just don't see that it's possible--makes it look too messy.
Finding legal-to-use guinea pig photos/art is not that easy. However, I own some of the top guinea pig sites on the net and have put together a small portfolio of images that I have either purchased or that I have the permission to use. This portfolio of images can be drawn upon exclusively or used for inspiration. But a few of the elements MUST be included.

I confess I'm a little concerned about the background image because most of the folks here seem to be great at logo and vector work, but, I'm hoping! :D I have at least 4 other similar website revision projects I'll be taking on soon as well. And depending on submissions, it's possible I may pay for work that I can use on other sites.

This is to give designers as much info as possible. I've taken a crappy crack at laying out some sample objects on the original background, just to give someone a very general idea of where I'm going. My version is too busy and well, you'll see, but it's a start.
I've loaded my crappy background version on my site, so that you can see the difference between my version and the original template look that I'm going for: Guinea Pig Market
Note: that the original PNG file (downloadable from the work package) has a LOT of fireworks objects in it. I went through it and removed many of the non-applicable objects. My modified version (which is kind of messy because I added some guinea pig graphics)--is downloadable--the link to my psd file is in the text on image 4 in my package.
What is the site about? : After many, many years of red ink doing rescue, I'm ready to do a better job at monetizing my traffic and providing more info and services. The initial primary driver is to move the antiquated Cage Store from my Guinea Pig Cages, Your Cavy At Home site on to this new site. So, I'll be selling guinea pig cages, accessories, and miscellaneous items along with a significant web 2.0 database of resources. Images of Coroplast, cages and some accessories must be included in the background image.
