1 --- Last year, Dotster had a transfer-in special @ $5.99 per domain. Well, the domains I transferred to them were coming up for renewal, but their renewal cost is around $15.
So I contacted their support to see if they would be willing to extend pricing competitive with other registrars. I got an automated response saying that I would hear back in 24 hours or less.
After 2 days went by, I replied to the response email, saying that I was going to start transferring my domains away. I then got a quick repsonse saying that they were unable to match other registrar pricing, but they offered $9.37 renewal pricing if I contacted them about the domains in question.
So, I checked around, and found a 15% off coupon for mydomain.com, to which you can instantaneously push domains for free from dotster. This brought the renewal cost down to $7.61 per domain, which wasn't as cheap as Godaddy or some other registrars, but does take away all of the transfer hassle. The coupon code is bargaincat.com for anyone who's interested.
I am curious why dotster doesn't want to try harder to keep my business, but that's their problem now.
2 --- Anyway, earlier today, I got a voice message from enom telling me that one of my domains is about to expire. Panicked, I check my account only to find it's a name that I already transferred to another registrar, but it still shows up in my account. I've always wondered about the logic of having a single domain in more than one account...could an unscrupulous person sell the domain in the old account, while still possessing the domain in the new account? probably not, but it makes me wonder.
3 --- Does anyone else have issues with Godaddy's push system? Half the time, it goes fine, but the other half often takes hour(s) to process, or never initiates at all. I find myself resending emails all the time because I never get the confirmation that I have initiated the push. Their pricing is good, but maybe you get what you pay for...
That's all for today :bah:
