Registerfly.com Escrow - Nightmare Story

The Story:

Approximately 12 weeks ago, I started an escrow with Registerfly, after money was wire transferred to Registerfly I waited until Registerfly claimed they received the money from the buyer. During this time my trust level of the buyer went up dramatically, to the point where I no longer believed I needed an escrow service, I went ahead and transferred the domains to the buyer directly for sake of speed and trust. The buyer accepted the domains and all was fine.

The Problem:

After the domain was transferred, I tried for multiple weeks, three in fact, to get in contact with Registerfly. Customer Service told me that the only one that could handle this problem was a Mr. Glenn Stansbury. After multiple emails, I finally got a hold of a Mr. Glenn Stansbury who stated that I needed to send him notarized statements from the buyer and seller that the transfer was completed.

Well, that’s fine and dandy but the buyer is in a foreign country and notarized statements were not something easily come by, anyways we did it, it took a few weeks and a lot of money to get the statements, oh well, it was my fault for not using Registerfly for the actual domain transfer portion of the Escrow.

I FedEx the statements along with a return envelope (Signature required) to Registerfly, they received those statements on Oct 11; on Oct 16, they confirmed receipt of those statements.

Many emails, many phone calls, many support tickets and I am still not receving the check five weeks after the point in the escrow where they owe me the money.

I do not want to turn this into a Regsiterfly.com bashing, that horse has already been beaten and its dead, what I need is advice on how to get my money out of Registerfly.

Have you tried pm'ing regfly here at NP?

Yes, I sent him a private message with link to this post and asked if he could possibly help. The problem is that no one at Registerfly will help, its Glenn or Glenn's boss and thats it.. no one else and that there is nothing they can do to help.

I am at my wits end.

Sorry, fully understand your situation... I am in one myself regarding renewal of my names and Authorization Codes...I threatened them with everything including filing a complaint with ICANN.

This company finds several ways to screw up...amazing how they continue to do business. This is an audacious company that continues to challenge its customers to take their business away...

The registerfly member here has stopped responding as well...tried that

Threaten them with everything including complaints to ICANN, BBB etc is my only suggestion..

Threatening them seems to get them to clam up, its like they want you to sue them. This isn't some little $ escrow, I can't just forget about it, I can't sleep, barely eat, its gnawing at me.

So how long should I wait for them to come around before talking to a lawyer? Its been five weeks since they owed me the money, what is the general business practice of domain transfer escrows?

Have you threatened to call a lawyer? If not, do so and if they don't get their act together then pursue a legal option.

In my experience, usually 3-5 days after buyer has accepted the domain. Based on escrow.com service...which I have only good things to say about..

5 weeks is unacceptable...

Probably the single best way to get them to clam up and disappear... (Similar to miranda in criminal situations, the "I'm calling my attorney" is business speak for "Time to shut the hell up") Certainly look into your own possibility, but chances are an attorney would cost you almost as much as your looking to get in escrow (Or just get someone to write a demand letter for you, but registerfly doesn't seem to be moved by legal positioning...)

Better bet is to be overly pushy. I'm talking on customer support every day (But POLITE) writing many certified letters to every name in registerfly management you can find (Again, POLITE) and continue to CALL your original contact.

Best of luck to you!

dare we ask how much money?

Sorry to hear about your experience with them. All I can say is send RegFly a PM here on this forum. I think he uses this place for his office? Not sure tho.
Anyway, good luck in getting your cash.

Kinda weird how these people are still in business.

As Allan said, make sure you document everything. This way if it ever ends up in court, you have a solid paper trail to support you. This paper trail would be helpful in not only recouping compensatory damages (what they currently owe you) but also punitive damages (damages given to punish bad behavior).

Registerfly required the original copies of the notarized statements, but I have scanned copies of them. I know the bank account as well as the date/time the wire transfer was deposited. I have all the emails corrispondance with Registerfly. I also kept a log of every phone conversation I had with registerfly and have my phone records with length of calls to back it up. I have proof of delivery of the notarized statements and the emails from Registerfly confirming receipt as well as their many promises to send the check, I hope it is enough.

The buyer has also stated he will assist me if this has to go to court, so thats has eased my mind a bit, maybe I can actually sleep tonight.

I spoke to an attorney on this. He asked that I collect and print off all my documentation as well as compile a list of all contacts. Then see if we can find out who is Mr. Stansburys "Boss".

This is one of the worst cases of customer abuse I have heard of. The folks at RegisterFly have ruined what smidgeon of credibility they ever had. Immediately contact InterNIC and submit this registrar complaint form.

Contact the New Jersey Better Buinsess Bureau address listed in the top of this link and I suggest all readers of this thread read what the BBB has to say about RegisterFly.com.

weeds - I am PM'ing you an email address of someone at ICANN. Details coming.

Dear Weeds (BTW, I do have your personal info as I have seen your emails from the past couple of days) I will work with Glenn on Monday to better undertsand your issue and to get this cleared up ASAP. I appologize if we are at fault, I have only seen your emails from the past couple of days so I am unaware the time frame or can confirm its validity. As I am new, my goal moving forward is make sure Registerfly provides an overall positve experience. I believe Registerfly has a great industry leading value proposition but just need to tighten up some process and improve some skill sets of employees within.

I appreciate your response, I hope you can provide some assistance and I am sorry if I might seem jaded, but this whole experience with your company has done this to me and it makes me more sympathic to those others out there that are experiencing problems with your company. I once was a Registerfly supporter and well, proof is in the pudding. Glenn, John and Kevin has let this turn ugly by their inaction, I had the patience to wait five weeks, I do not have the patience for six.

I have only dealt with Glenn Stansbury who is the Vice President of Operations. I have managed a fortune 500 IT company Helpdesk before that can say Omar, Chris, Eddie, and Amy have all been upto par with any customer service its your management that has the issue, dont pawn the fault onto the worker bees of Registerfly they have been professional.

It's amazing how fast RegFly will take your money, double bill you, bill you randomly for no services, etc... But to get a check out of them, you gotta wait months and traverse the echelon of stupidity to get it. Maybe I don't understand the corporate structure, but it seems logical that a VP of Operations could cut a check for money that the company has already received and verified... Not to mention the money should have been put into an Escrow account, so the only possible payee is Weeds...
The buyer paid, the transfer has been completed, now pay the man.

I'd ask for the interest on that as well...

RF has their share of problems but this time this was your fault.

Their is an Escrow process in place for a reason, if you circumvent that then you are a sitting duck. You have no one but yourself to thank.

Either next time use the escrow process as intended or don't use one at all. In either of those cases it would have probably worked out better than this. Sorry to hear about your problems but you brought this one on yourself.

Next time follow the system that is in place or don't use the system. Seems silly paying for an escrow service and then not using it. Does not make sense at all.

what a Pitty !!! never expected that regfly would do this.anyways if i were you, i would have warned them to pay immediately or face the consequences the next day.you should'nt worry about going to lawyer and filing a suit against them, coz theres 100% chance they will lose and if they lose they will have to pay your amount+lawyers fee.you can also claim orther expenses when you are sueing them.if would go for maximum exposure of this topic.if the amount was big.

"I am having dinner with him :p "

Is that way one talk's to their customers???
