Redirect Questions

Hey Everyone,

I have a few questions. I recently took over a wordpress blog with content related to specialty cars. It is getting around 15k unique visitors a month. I also own another wordpress blog with the same related content that gets around 5000 a month.

I would like to redirect the domain with 5000 visitors to the one with 15k as I do not see the need to have 2 sites with the same related content. I read about a 301 redirect. Is this the best option?

Also would you recommend just taking all the posts from from the first website and import it all to the other site than redirect it?

if, the expense of maintaining both is not an issue, then i would just "link" to each other.

why?

then you'd have "two" valuable properties, instead of one

It is not about the expense. They are just 2 websites, with the same type of content. My thinking was to just combine the 2 instead of decided which one to post on. After all I do not want duplicate content.

Yes, if you want to merge them a 301 is the way to go. You also should use Webmaster Tools to tell Google the site has moved and try to get links pointed to the new domain, if possible.

Copying content over in addition would be great, especially if there is different content - you have it, might as well use it. If the content is the same or very similar (example: spun version of the same articles) copying would be counterproductive.

You will lose SOME link juice from the old site when you redirect. Not a lot, but some.

Since I am hear talking about redirects I have another one for you. Another site I recently took over I want to also merge with another site. They are both forums with 2 entirely different directory structure. How can I do a redirect on it?
