I'm thinking of creating a website that simply lists real estate agents in a city so that someone who searches for that city name followed by realty they will be shown this list to contact someone to help them buy a home. I'd also like to display the commission they charge whether it's 3%, 4%, 5%, or some other flat fee. What do you think of this idea and what additional featues would you think a website like this should have?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

The idea is pretty good. I think you should also consider adding a finance related page as well as legal requirements page.

sites like this should have efficient search program to get sharper results.

Also you'd prolly need a forum on your website, people would like to talk about those agents, to find out something about them, maybe even to ask them some questions?

Cool!

Localize this concept ... if possible, secure an generic, upper type tier domain name that will immediately grab the attention of the local Real Estate agent surfers, IMHO. Add further regional stats, information, news feeds and content - and thus credibility, eyeballs, traffic, ranking - that suits this local domain name/new website. If you are creative and unique with this (in your respective locale), IMHO this will create demand from paying Realtorsโ„ข. Offer simple, mutually beneficial reciprocal "link exchanges" at first, and then with the ability for upgrades such as premium placement, key sponsorship (via easy Paypal), etc. as you build out the local network.
Just some initial thoughts here this evening ...

What potential domain name(s) are you considering for your new venture? :talk:
Will you need to become licensed in your state in order to possibly post local MLS Listings (and key photos, virtual tours, etc.) on this site, as well? :snaphappy:

All the best!

I think that would be a great idea, but as Jeff said, maybe keep it local at first, approach local real estate branches, get a good domain name and have some good scripts.

Thanks for those comments and suggestions. I'm thinking of registering a number of domain names over a period of time. I would start with my local city and branch out from there. I'm not sure if I need to be a licensed realtor to gain access to the mls listings. This is something I need to investigate.

Yes, being a REALTOR is required for MLS. And MLS is localized too, not national.
