Well I needed a new portfolio because my last portfolio is very messed up and I never really put any work into it. This new one's text/css based (hardly any images), for fast load and simplicity.

Anyways, here it is: http://www.tonyxing.com/new

NOTE: Many things are missing in this site, because I started 10 minutes ago and I'm wondering if this is a good idea or not. If most people find it a good idea then I'll continue, if not I'll switch to maybe a flash site :hehe:

So in your review please include "recommended" or "not recommended"

Please review :yell:

If you are making a portfolio make it less standardized. Make it jump out with designs or images. Grey just seems not attractive and you want your portfolio to be the opposite.

Oh :( So I need to: change the colours, put more pictures.

I received a review from someone else, though, who says that portfolios should be simple, little picture, fast loading, nothing fancy, and as clean as possible because the visitor is here to browse your work rather than look at your portfolio, as long as everything's easy to find it's good.

More reviews please

NOTE: The lower part of the home page will be displayed thumbnails of my work so it's blank at the moment.

To be honest this could work! Just try to get a very bright color to your site, like a red/blue or yellow or even orange could work! I really like designs that have shades of grey and black and then add a very light color to it! I'd say keep working on it, it will be good!

And about what the other user said ( in your post above ) I feel that if you are a webdesigner, they should need to look at your site as one of your artpieces, so nothing simple etc, make it looking good, as it's the first impression they will get from you, and you know, the first impression stays!

Site review

Hi. First of all, I think portfolio sites should have a template that shows how good the portfolio is. The design should include pictures. You need to make a banner, include more colours, even show snippets of your designs on the index page. You need more editing to do.

Good luck with your site!

Overall Rating: 5/10 (Not finished and template not really perfect)

Regards. :)

Well I did say already in bold that it's still about 30% complete, and I'm just asking if it's a good idea to do what I'm doing (because I never did this kind of PF before. I will add thumbnails of works. Thanks Klaas, I will put some colours (I've decided green :D).

fmauniverse, I will update when I finish 100%. Read the top first. Also I didn't put banners and pictures for a reason.

Detailed Analysis

Before I go into any further analysis, I am saying "recommended". It looks like you've been working through it for two days and have achieved a nice layout for your portfolio. Your simple look has a modern touch and can be easily seen by visitors without fuss. With this appearance, it is fast loading and won't keep potential customers awaiting.

As it is incomplete, I cannot say much about the content. Examples of previous work would be good to assure customers you know what you are doing. I would change your 'Online contact form (Recommended)' without the Recommended text. With your IM profiles, just mention that they are alternative 'Contact Me' options. Your display of skills is good. I don't think there is any need for the words in brackets. Possibly change from "Host (temporarily) your site" to "Temporary Hosting of Websites" of something alike. Adding "Multiple Pages" isn't nessessary as we all know that all websites mostly have more than one page.

Your testimonial section is great. Maybe find a script that rotates that around. Be careful about linking the Tony Xing email at the bottom. Bots will treat it like treasure and spam it forever.

Keep up the good work - I look forward to the end project. Good luck with it Tony Xing.
