Is it advisable to buy and develop multiple domain names that have the same name but different URL and try to rank them all?.

What I mean is, can it work as site positioning strategy?. One main site and the rest just to promote it, though ranking independently from one another.

Example.

abc.com (main)
abc.net
abc.org

Maybe. It depends on what kind of sites you have and how well promoted the other sites are. The two schools of thought are 1) have one main site, then have many mini-sites that help promote the main site, and 2) Just put all your effort into one big site, because you are more focused then and anything you do will benefit the main site 100%.

Both seem to work, but the first method may involve more work and expenss with domains, hosting, promoting, etc.
