I returned to Arizona last night after attending 2 of the 3 days of DomainFest LA sponsored by Domain Sponsor. I must say, Ron and the rest of the Domain Sponsor team, along with their co-sponsors (.mobi, Afternic, Name.com, etc.) did a superb job on making this a fun, yet informative, event.

Wednesday evening was very casual. We had cocktails, appetizers and a great dinner hosted by Name.com. The majority of the evening consisted primarily of domainers meeting other domainers, and talking about, you guessed it, domains.

Thursday consisted of several very interesting speakers, including Tina Dam from ICANN, attorney John Berryhill, who really gave a wonderful speech on trademark infringement, as it pertains to parking domains to generate PPC revenue. Unfortunately, I was unable to stay to hear Roger Collins from Afternic and Pinky Brand from .Mobi, as I had to catch a plane, but I’m sure they too were great.

Name Pros was definitely well represented at the event. RJ (Ron), Gypsy Bee (Barbara), Sevent (Matt) and Crooky (Steve) were all there – each of which are truly great people!

Overall, I’m glad I went. Hope to see more NPers next year!

Any particular domains getting "buzz" down there? Trends developing, new concepts in markets or marketing?

What were some of John Berryhill's main points?

No particular buzz words or trends that I was able to gather. As far as John Berryhill's speech, he spoke of trademark infringement on ppc pages. For example, it might be ok to register myapple.com (only if the content and ads on the parked page pertains to apples, fruit, etc.. and not computers in any way.

I'm just wondering why there are no updates on domainfestla.com? No photos, no transcripts, no auction sales...

Not sure. Perhaps it will take them a few days as the conference is technically still going on. As for auction sales, there wasn't any auction. They did however give every attendee a list of domains that other attendees were selling with a minimum price.

Duke usually stay on top of these meetings, especially considering that NDJournal is listed as one of the sponsors. I expect some material to be posted on DNJ very soon.
