Hi..
I understand that to own a keyword domain is good because it ranks you higher.
My questions are ..
When I use wordtracker i notice some keywords that would be good domains. after looking them up most of the time I find the .com's are gone. sometimes the .net's or .org's are still there. my question is, when it comes to value, is it good to buy a .net or .org that is a keyword? What good will it do? does it automatically bring my site to the top or does ppc keyword override the domain that is that keyword.

I am thinking of buying a .org name that has a pretty good keyword that is popular. Problem is.. it would have to begin with 'the'. for example... "TheKeyword.org" . I am wondering if its feasible to get it because its a .org and it begins with 'the'.

first of all, seeing that this is your first post, and seeing that your new to domaining, i dont think you should contemplate buying anything until you get a good number of posts here and you do enough homework.

to answer your first question, yes, it is good to buy a .net or .org that is a keyword. https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal <- that is a good keyword tool to find out how many searches have occurred for certain keyword terms.

what will it do is a very vague question. you would generally own a domain that features a keyword that is a 100% match of a term people are searching for. and you would own in it in one of the big 3 extensions, which is a big plus. it's good to have when finding an end-user or if you wanted to develop it personally.

no, the domain alone (in most low budget cases) does not automatically bring your site to the top of google search results. without getting too much into SEO, your developed mini-site would need to give people a reason to visit and stay. i'm not going to get into backlinks, keywords, and seo for now.

and as for your last point, i would not buy anything unless seasoning yourself further. and your dilemma really depends on what exactly that keyword is. if you are looking to resell it, i am inclined to say that it doesnt sound like a good investment. if you plan on developing it, it depends on how long the keyword is. if length isn't too much of a burden, then your fate would depend entirely on the quality of the site. any domain has infinite potential developed.

match the term to the extension. different keywords suit .com, .net, .org, .info

yes, exact keywords help in the searches.

buy slowly and only after trying to sell some names, too.

welcome aboard!

First; Welcome to NP

Buy only coms and marketing names. obviously read the forum a bit before you register some names. ( suggest you to check appraisal topic ) Never trust appraisal sites like estibot :) good luck

While the above advice is interesting considering dbandlo owns "yea.net" .coms are not the end all say all. I have managed to sell .cc names after development and some marketing strategies for a good return with little investment. I would encourage you to do proper research before hand while looking at names to invest in. If you see a .net or .org available for a name you like there may be a reason which could be nothing more than low interest in that subject or area. Perhaps the name does not fit the extension as well could be another reason why no one has touched it. Proper research will yield a better return and literally save you a good amount of money if done correctly.

well just check out the appraisal section and you'll see how they're ( newbies ) registering desperate nets and orgs. as you know LLL.orgs and nets worth something else to resellers, obviously i dont buy too many LLL nets and orgs if they're not premium and as you can see yea.net is high premium one.

I have managed to sell .cc names after development and some marketing strategies

without marketing and development they all worth reg fee imo. when i was newbie i was trying to find some good ones and i clearly saw all the coms was unavailable then i tried my chance on cctdls and then realized they were all worth reg fee.

come on people realize that '' com rocks all the way ''

I agree without development they are valuable to the registrar and the eye of the beholder if you will. However I don't believe you should stop at just .coms but maybe starting out it's not a bad idea.

And yes "yea.net" is a very nice premium name I just thought it was semi contradicting to your post. No harm or negativity intended.

The Big Three (COM/NET/ORG) are heads and shoulders above the rest (other than a few CCTLD) as far as credibility goes.

.NET are extremely popular with end users. Most people would rather have a domain like StockMarket.net than something like StockMarketToday.com just because it is a .COM

There are huge benefits to having domains with exact keyword matches, especially in a credible extension.

It is much easier to find bargains on NET/ORG. My ROI on .NET/.ORG and hyphenated keywords is ridiculous in comparison to .COM

I would always try and stick with the .com there are still thousands of excellent keyword domains available for Reg Fee!

But otherwise .net & .org are the 2nd best in my idea but dont forget to look at things like .co.uk if you are going after a market in a dedicated country.

Regards,

Robbie
