Questions about backlinks

Backlinks are links that are send to a certain page from various other sites. But does it matter what the link says? Like would a dot linked to www.betrollwin.com be as effective as "www.betrollwin.com"? When backlink updates, does it go by the text diplayed or the destination? When is the next backlink update? Do they hold them quarterly just like PR?

backlink updates? whenever you search for backlinks it is real time.. it does matter what the link says for search terms related to your site. see the wikipedia article on googlebombing

Are you sure backlinks are showing up as live? I don't think so because I know I have more than 0 backlinks.

I think the Google backlink tool has been unreliable for a long time, showing only a selection of backlinks. Try checking Yahoo instead, and see if you get better results.

And yes, having keywords in the anchor text of a link is very important for search engine rankings; a dot wouldn't be as good as "www.bluewidgets.com", which wouldn't be as good as "Blue Widgets".

Yes.

What Google really cares about is anchor text (the "text" part of the text link), so you should use some important keywords in it. Someting like:
betrollwin.com - online casino resource
DO NOT link just a dot or invisible text! Google recognizes this as shady SEO techniques and punishes for it.

Every time the robot/spider/crawler finds/indexes a link to your site - it gets updated.

So what would be more effective? Bet Roll Win - Online Casino Resource or BetRollWin - Online Casino Resource. I'm sure I have more than 1 backlink.. This forum is one, 3 other forums, and like 10 sites. Google and URL trends is showing up as 0 backlinks.

There's often a difference between what Google knows and what Google tells.

Google continuously updates PR, and continuously finds and takes account of new backlinks. What Google displays on the toolbar (for PR) and returns for the link: command (for backlinks) is only periodically updated, though; there's a lag.

This means that you'll probably see the effects of PR and backlinks long before you see the PR and backlinks. That doesn't mean that they aren't there, just that Google isn't reporting them yet.
