This might be obvious and a stupid question but i rather ask than mess up down the road. Lets say abc.com is a TM and I register a-b-c.com. Would that cause legal disputes? I think it would but I just want a definite answer. Thanks!

With out a trademark of your own in a different category you could well have a problem.
Try listing it with sedo for parking, they let you know very quickly if you may be infringing on a common mark. Then don't let them scare you into letting the domain expire, just redirect it to another domain that those letters stand for, and you will not be profiteering from there TM.
