Unstoppable Domains

.tv Question for TV domainers???

I am at a stage where I am going to start investing a bit more in .TV domains.

At the moment, I have variety of domains with majority being from the following

Kids/Childrens shows (ie KidsCartoons.tv)
Games (WebGamer.tv)
Travel Shows (ie HolidaySpots.tv)
Firstnames.tv (ie Hugh, Cara, Kelsey)
Sports (ie GlobalSoccer.tv)
Keywords (Recycles, Renovates, Serviced)
Geos (Devonshire.tv)

My question is, which of these areas do you think would be the best to invest in, or should I just judge this by the name itself. Obviously having a variety is good, but there must be one or a couple of areas that will always get you good ROI if you pick the right names

Any thoughts/advice/help on this??

Large cities. But don't just invest in the name - invest in the development as well. If you pick a town or city you know well I think you'll ALWAYS make a good living developing it.

And as for Devonshire - I don't want to piss on your chips, but it's not a quality geo - it's a pub name. Get Devon instead, that's the county name.

If you are just domaining, go for the foreign high calibre names. I was still able to handreg a few foreign language numbers and know there is much more still available.

If I'm not mistaken, are you South African, but live in Australia? If I'm wrong, I'm sorry to have made the mistake, but if I'm right you have two wonderful markets for .TV close to your own heart.

I would say get a real good GEO geared toward travel, a big tourist area.

Also, the spanish market is exploding and I would invest in spanish names whether GEO related on games, movies, music, etc. You are seeing and going to see alot of really good premium names drop this summer. In fact, I saw 3 good ones this week at Ahead.tv up for deletion. You are making the right choice in investing in .tv, but choose good quality names with a solid development/business plan behind it and you will do good.

Jimbojimbo, thanks for the advice mate

You are right, I am South African and I live in Oz, I am certainly looking at TV domains related to South Africa in particular, I know the country well and speak 4 of the african languages which will help too. I go back to SA every 2 years to see all my family and friends so i still have a good knowledge of the country.

I am finding it really hard to develop as I dont have time. Unfortunately, I dont do this for a living.

Jim: Thanks a lot of the comments, I will certainly keep an eye out for the droppping names, I like the spanish names too and I have been keeping a lookout for them as well

Cheers

Giles

Glad to see your jumping into .tv and liking it.

I would say geo names are hot now, travel will always be there.

I would also say suggest take it slow and avoid the hype and of course over buying names. Invest in names you know or work at everyday life.

I like product names for .tv and what qoof is doing. I also like the financial names and forex and of course porn.

Jim is right on Spanish market and it will be hot. Growing population in the united states. I don't know much about this area but belive I own a couple porn names in Spanish.

I took it all wrong for my for first year in domaining. Bigger is not better. Would rather have 5 top notch names vs 100 names of so so names or names I don't know why invested in the first place.

Good luck

Very true. However, geo.tv names are not only related to travel, but also to local search.
Tourist destinations will always work very well with geo.tv domains.
But I would expect that most cities/states/countries/areas, as long as they're of a decent size/interest, could work very well with .tv, as online video will become more and more mainstream in the years to come and as people will look for information about the area where they actually live (local news, local businesses, local entertainment, local videos, etc.).
Great development potential there.

You're spot on ! This is true for all domain names, but even more for .tv, where it's harder to flip names and where most people are in for the long term. Being either long-term investors or developers means that it's essential to have very high quality names even if it's in a limited number (depending on the budget and business plan of course).

Yep. Couldn't agree more on things.

Got rid of a lot of names and still have some to move.

Next couple weeks time to go through my list and determine which ones I will keep and eventually develope. Keep the names I know or see value in. Goal is to be under 50 .tv names.

Surly learned a lot in a years time.

In the end of the day, you should judge on the name itself. But in terms of niches that I see work very well with the .tv extention, things like GEO, adult, video/media, entertainment, gambling, finance.

When considering a name, imagine that the name represents your brand. It should be easy to remember, easy to spell, and easy to type. I agree with what others have said: Make sure to properly invest in development.

As for which area to pursue or particular name to invest in, I would recommend doing some research to find out what the keywords related to the particular industry sell for on Google Adwords. Also, look at all of the opportunities to sell advertising on your site. Perhaps selling some ads might not require a lot of work while others may consume a lot of time.

Find and go with the one name that will enable you to make more profit in less time. Then take that small fortune and your new experience and put it to use in another area. Before you know it, you will be a success.
