Question about expiring domains

New Zealand has only one expired domains auction site, with no competition in the market they automatically catch all the dropping domains everynight, the only way presently of securing a dropping domain is by bidding for it on this site, most other countries have more than one such site and these sites compete for dropping domains, my question is what would stop me from competing directly with this site rather than using it to secure the domains I want, or is this not allowed by ICANN rules?

As long as they are an ICANN registrar or ICANN SRS registrar I see no reason why you can not compete with their company. I do not have anyone using our back order services at this time so I can not give you more information than that. Can not see where it would be a problem.

1. Of course you can compete against them, set up a registrar and start catching drops. Hint: if there's no competition it could be because the .nz market is too small to make it worthwhile.
2. Icann has authority over the gTLDs, but has no say in the management of ccTLDs.
