domain Question about .es domains

I'm curious about .es domains. I know .es indicates Spain. Are these domains ever very desirable when it comes not just regular domains, but the play on words type (e.g., favorit.es or something of the sort)?

Also, it doesn't seem like you can register these domains everywhere. Are they only available to some people, or transferable to some hosts or anything? Thanks.
