Question about domain

Hi all,

Is election3004.com worth keeping? I currently own it and it is about to get out of its grace period.... its a big investment though ... $8/year for 100 years is $800. Obviously I won't be around to see it get used, but my kids would be ....

Think 100 years from now things will be so different that the domain name wouldn't be used anymore?

Domain names will be obsolete long before that. I even wonder about 10 years from now...

It's not a hundred years until 3004, it's a thousand. That increases your projected cost by a factor of ten, and massively decreases the odds of the domain system (not to mention the electoral system) lasting that long.

Nice idea, but personally I'd let the domain drop.

It's not worth the risk, IMO. How many generations will there be in 1000 years? Maybe there won't be internet anymore, something might have taken over it.

Imagine the domain is hold until then and that year there are no elections. It would be funny. A domain registered for 1000 years with no value.

Turn it into a satirical political site, or let it drop are about the only 2 options I see. Oh, another option, you could send me $8000 and I'll ensure its renewed for the next 1000 years, so you'll have it available when it becomes topical (not quite sure how I'd do that, but anyway)....lol

lol .... I kind of want to start a parody site / forum site of sorts maybe ... with a count down at the top:

"Countdown until the 3004 election" and "# of Elections until the 3004" election...

Maybe make a discussion thread about future elections, past elections, results, presidents, etc..... maybe even have it focus on the executive branch.

Thats my only idea ... otherwise I'll probably let it drop. Others?

Let it drop - if I had a great-great-great-great-grandfather who registered a domain like that, I'd probably think he was a loony.

On a more serious note, it's an interesting idea, but, a lot can change in a thousand years. And, even if the Internet and the human race will still be around in 3004 in its present form, I doubt that elections3004 could fetch you more than low xxx anyway! :D
