Question about .cc domains

does .cc stand for a place or a country? i remember reading something about it saying that ".cc is the next .com" , so i'm not sure.

Also , is .cc suitable for a site that does local business? (all other instances including .biz are taken)

grr... I was led to believe .cc was calcutta! Not many people (ordinary people) know that .cc is a country code domain, so a business domain should be ok.

Not sure about .cc being the next .com, but yes... they can be used by anyone anywhere for any type of site.
