Hello, I have a question regarding 'brandable' domains.

I've heard a lot of talk about this and I want to make sure I'm on the right track --

I've been pulling lists from namejet and going through by hand, with the assistance of a script to remove anything other than .com and over X characters and found the following domains that I would presume fall under the 'brandable' category. Naturally, I was unable to handreg any, but I want to see if I'm grasping the idea of what 'brandable' is.

Some examples --
fliqs dot com
tijit dot com
zuuda dot com
xonez dot com

Would you consider these as 'brandable?' or am I failing miserably?

Thanks!

When you choose a brandable the first thing to do is ask yourself : would I use those / that name for my business / company? I don't mean a funny website but a company you and your family have to make a living with.

Then there are other aspects to consider but I might tell you about them tomorrow..it's late...

without a concept or biz model that exemplifies or ,relates to, that particular "term", then there is nothing to brand.

imo...

benrmartin,

The names you listed are a bit too hard to pronounce & spell...(too many different ways). The fact that you are seeking help is a good thing. You'll be able to avoid buying the wrong types of names.

You may want to look at the names listed at BrandBucket, Namerific, and Brandroot to see what names are accepted and more importantly pay attention to the names actually selling. Many of the names that sell are a variation of a common word (like Word + ify = Wordify as a hypothetical example).

If you spend some time reviewing these types of names, it will become easier for you to snag the right types of names from the drop lists and from new hand reg. Start with just a few names, and try to get them accepted at BrandBucket, Namerific or Brandroot as a litmus test of if you are on the right track.

Best of luck to you.

Having good brandables requires experience from exposure on many forums and markets and hardwork to sell them. You.need to start gradually and after selling of one or two, then you can then buy more from namejet and others.
However, brandable should be something one can pronouce once and smothly, when called iton radio or phone should be something one can understand easily.

Cheers.

I am in no way a big time domainer, if anything it's been a hobby for me. What I will say though, is that over the years; one of the categories that domainers lose money in the most is brandables.

The reason is that the number of domains that serve the purpose of being brandable are so many. This means that end-users have a lot of substitute options if you price it too high.

Additionally the number of domains that may seem like brandable to individual domainers but are really endless. And because of this you have domainers holding crappy domains paying reg fees year over year but no sales.

For me personally, I would let most of the domains you listed drop when renewal comes out. But what the heck do I know, domaining has a huge aspect of luck involved as well.

I'd recommend you look over your porfolio, and take a good look at what your annual renewal cost are like and maybe consider letting some of your not as good domains go. Renewal cost are deceiving because they look like nothing but they really can add up quickly.

If you think you have a brandable name, head over to EatMyWords.com and take the SMILE and SCRATCH tests. There's a lot of useful info on what makes a name brandable.

Thank you so much for all of your input. I particularly like the idea of trying to imagine hearing it on the radio. That makes perfect sense. I'm new to looking into domains based on a 'brandable' aspect. To be honest, it seems far too open to interpretation or opinion -- almost in a sense that you'd have to get extremely lucky for something to 'stick' or make it. Basically, anything that sounds catchy could be brandable, but there are a million other options for someone to choose as alternatives. I'll stick to just picking up names on a whim. Perhaps someone could give me some opinions on the following which I own to let me know if they may ever become of any value, or if they are interesting enough to keep... theseorthose.com, clickjacked.com, imsogangster.com amongst a number of others.

Thanks again for all of your responses, I truly appreciate your insight.
