Ok, I'm not a newbie in terms of domains - I've been dealing with websites and such for over 10 years... however I've never purchased a domain from another party before. This is where I have a couple of questions I'm sure people here can help answer.

How do you ensure you a domain you purchase is actually transferred to you after sending payment to someone short of only purchasing from someone you know? What's the best way to go about sending payment to someone? Paypal? Is there some way to get money back if a domain isn't transferred from a 3rd party person after sending payment?

And note: I'm mainly referring to cheap domains under $xxx

The safest way would be to use an escrow service, but you will need to pay for it.
You could try www.escrow.com (fee for a $100 transaction is $25 (%3.25 or $25min) and can be split between the buyer an seller. If you are buying your domains at Sedo, then the escrow service is included, but the minimum fee for listing and selling a .com domain through them is $50 (payable by the seller). You can also use their escrow service for a transaction outside Sedo, min fee 3% or $50 for .com domain.

Afternic also offers an escrow service and I'm sure other services are available.

Make sure the seller is the actual broker for the DN's seller,This is not uncommon ,Brokering ...i do myself...But i never use escrow.com unless the purchase is 1K or more,Iniciating escrow and the wait can play a toll on both parties for a small $ transaction.
