If your firewall/proxy settings on your network does not allow you to download files with specific extensions, ie: exe
Then try;

go

Code:
http://world.altavista.com

write the url of the file into
"Translate a Web page" box
Select any option from "select from and to languages" combo box
click "Translate"
Then click
"save as" "trurl_pagecontent"
After download completed change the name of trurl_pagecontent to the file name with the correct extension; ie: blabla.exe

Nifty advice! I'm sure some server administrator somewhere won't like this, lol.

i think, instead you can save the file itself as an asp file and then change it to exe?.

how can you change the file extension on the fly to .asp
by hacking the server? ;)
you can only change the file name, not extension, before you have completely downloaded it

If i come across an exe file which i need to download and iam not allowed to download it, i right click, save target as, and then save it as abc.asp(if the file is abc.exe).
Then i go to command promt and then rename it to exe.

you can not change the file extension on the fly, before you have completely download it to your local machine

if you do save target as and rename, ie: download.exe
then the file you are trying to download will be download.asp.exe
Hope it is clear

No it wont be download.asp.exe.
It will only be download.asp

Most of my files that i download are xls files but they are made by our programers as an asp file. When i download its an asp file. But i download them by saving them as .xls file.

but you are talkþng about a spesific download site, most sites use direct download urls and in that case when you click save target as, your network proxy settings do not allow to call that file to be dowloaded. try it using a filter tool like websense you will se what i mean more clearly
