Well proxies are a major thing on the internet.
I'm personally just starting out and want to try earn afew bucks per day.
Namepros doesn't really have any threads i've found that help out proxy owners/ newbies.
I myself am a newbie aswell. I'm still learning alot but have picked up afew ideas and such to keep it alive.

#1 Putting your words like Proxy/Bypass/Filter into a image so that it cannot be picked up if any schools have programs that read pages. (my school has this feature)

I haven't got really anymore to add but i hope members can contribute. :)
People who are experienced with proxies or have any tips/tricks please post them here to help out others, I may Sticky this thread and reward NP$ to people who help out :tu:

Well, I know how 2 types of filtering software work:
1) They parse the url and if they see a word like "proxy" inside it then they block it. Many workplaces block "email" as well
2) Websense in specific works in a different way: they send bots out everyday to find proxies and proxy related websites. Once they do they enter them in a database. Once network administrators who run websense update their own local databases, these sites are blocked.

In terms of your proxy topsite, it's probably blocked by some software if it has "proxy" (or similar) in it but I think people could be using them at home to gather proxy URLs that they can use at school, college or work.

I hope this helps

So does having the word Proxy even once in your page trip off filters? or does it have to be reapeated several times? Or is just for domains names and title tags??

I'm very interested in this becuase Last week I made a quite a bit of money off my proxy Topsite alone from several hundred visitors for those 5 work days, and tommoro is the start of new school and work day...(monday)

But I think there more traffic there alot of them can't get threw becuase I have "proxy" in my title tags for SEO.

I think it would helpfull if someon could put a link to a article on how school Filter systems work to better understand it.

Nope my traffic comes from google during the morning at afternoon from people at school or work. Then dies off around 4pm. I'm on the first or sometime second page for "keyword + proxies" .
How about <h1> tags on the page header. Would <h1>Proxies</1> set off a filter? As you know h tags are good for SEO, googlebot likes them.

Googlebot likes those tags and so does bots from Websense and other Filtering software. You can't have everything: if you rank for google, then you will probably be picked up by websense bots and categorized as "proxy avoidance".
However, people will find ways of accessing your website, either from home (the timeslots you mention above are relative since we live in a global market) or through other proxies (to find new proxies once the one they use now is blocked).

One alternative is to install a self-signed SSL certificate to, at least, avoid Websense, from blocking your site. Proxy.org is the most famous proxy toplist site and even though it's blocked by all filtering software, they are still popular. They run https as an alternative if you are blocked.

Bottom line is: if people find what they are looking for on your website, they'll find ways to access it and keep coming back

I don't I was hoping someone here had article writtin by someone knowlegable about how filters work. Like maby a article from a .edu domain. (they usually have the best non-biased factual articles on subjects)

As for HTTPS, If this can bypass websense then there is good option.
Mod_SSL is installed on my server. I have to figure out how to use it though. I have no idea.

Not all filters work in the same way. As I said earlier, websense and bluecoat categorize websites and then network administrators block the desired categories. Websense has a database with 1 billion websites while bluecoat has 15million BUT can block https. Alladin works in a similar way. Check their website.
Other ones block any URL that has specific words in it e.g. gmail.com might be blocked because it contains "mail" in it.

Happy Proxy is a paid proxy script which is supposed to be able to keep filtering software away and avoid blocking them but I have yet to see this with websense.

Regarding SSL, on my H-Shpere I have an option to enable SSL but I need to change to dedicated IP first. Then I can generate a "self-signed" certificate and access my website using https.

You could try asking your host provider for support?

What is the best proxy script for logging in to sites such as Myspace and Facebook?

I like surrogafier for this purpose because it's very robust and just 1 file. Should work for both myspace and facebook.

All I can say.. is make you have a Dedicated Server if you plan on having multiple proxies.. and yes also.. DONT ever use the word Prox or Proxy in a domain.. i learned that the hard way hehe...

why shouldn't you use the word "proxy" in a domain ?

Because most of the applications (like parental blocking programs) that block Proxies in the first place, block any website with 'Prox' or 'Proxy' in the domain name. Therefore, you lose a good amount of traffic that has those applications at work, school, or home.

I would think if you had multiple domains for a Proxy, it would be easy to see if this was true. You could check the stats against the ones that did not use prox or proxy wording in the domain.

You may with decent SEO get equal traffic if the word proxy was in the domain.

Just an idea, not by any means a fact. :)

how can we start proxies?

how much it will cost for hosting?

let me know.

A good dedicated server will cost you no less than 100$ month. but you can start using vp servers, virtual private servers are less expensive but lack power and are shared, good if you have few proxies.

when looking to start a proxy site, its probably best to not actually put the word "proxy" on your site because many places block any website that contains that word...so you have to use synonyms.

i hope this won't be considered as spam (will remove if asked)

You can add your proxy for free on my 2 proxy lists, that will give you some traffic:

http://theproxi.com
http://prxy.us

good luck with your proxy!

Yes, avoid terms that can relate to proxy such as block, bypass, unfilter, surf, in your domains. These terms are getting blocked fast.

You can also use glype and encode your main index file to avoid getting indexed by filters, the downside is your ads might show irrelevant ads or doesn't show at all.

Other thing that can be done is to disguise your proxy. Make it like bbenglish.info or bbelectronics.info..

If possible, avoid submitting the proxies to listing sites or topsites which has proxy word in the domains, also submitting to groups might expose your proxy to danger as some admins does subscribe to proxy groups.
