Protection.co on Whois

whois.com shows protection.co as available for registration in suggestion, but it is already owned and has expiry in next year. WhoIs allows me to checkout the purchase when I go through the suggestions. Suppose if I pay for it, what happens the current owner? or does it recognize it before accepting payment...

No idea why whois.com is showing available for protection.co, it shouldn't. It might be a Directi error.

Well it is showing several other such domains with SALE tag on top of it. I don't understand what it means, is that on sale by the owner or something ?

Checked from http://dfordomains.com/domains/domains-registration and found that protection.co is not available. A Check Availability is the only way to determine if a domain is actually available for registration.
