I was wondering if anyone here has promoted their domains on the Afternic or Sedo homepages. Is it worth it? its $39 for 30 days on Sedo, and $50 for 30 days on Afternic.... and i am thinking about giving this a try. I would appreciate all feedback on this so that i can make an informed decision. Thanks!

Hey jstermx,

I was asking myself the same question just a few weeks ago. I ended up going with Sedo's showcase. It hasn't been a whole month yet, but I have seen a fairly dramatic increase in traffic to my offer page.

I've gotten ~40 hits on my offer page at this point after about 2.5 weeks on the showcase, which doubles the amount of offer page looks I'd had previously. It's very obvious when the name hits the homepage (the domains rotate) because the hits climb dramatically. When it's not on the homepage, the difference is negligible. It seems to cycle back to the home page about once every two or three days judging from the way the hits jump, and I believe it stays there for an hour each time. So if you do the math you end up getting about 10-15 hours of exposure on the homepage for your money.

At the same time, I bought a category showcase ($10) for another domain, to compare how the traffic would do. That one is also up in traffic by about 13 hits as a means of comparison -- however that's also about double the amount of looks on the offer page I had previously gotten.

Hits are definitely up, but so far no offers have resulted from the extra exposure, and of course that's what we're all interested in. We'll see.

Hmm, yes- I have done it several times with various domains on Sedo, but have to say it has never resulted in any offers, although page views have increased. I would only say it is worth it for premium domains.

You can throw your list of domains up for free, but if you want a spot on the homepage you have to pay $40 -- it's the "featured listing" category.

Does this mean I wont be able to get QUOTES if its not on the homepage?

Hello JsteRmX,

The editor at DomainNameWire recently tested our Home Featured listings. You can view the test and results and see what you think:

Hey, thanks for these links Amber. Good to see Afternic has a presence here -- that's extra points for Afternic in my book.

Sedo

I have used Sedo's featured listings service and the service produced great results. Views of my offer page have risen to nearly 500 and I have received 4 offers (although none worth taking). If you have a solid domain, I would certainly recommend using the service.

Only worth it for a premium domain IMO a so so domain will just get a low $60 offer at best. Not worth the price of the featured listing

allright so i did decide to go with afternic's homepage upgrade. Tonight is the first night I have been featured on the homepage. my listing visits went up 150%. Also, i have tried to find my listing on the homepage about 25 times, and 3 times i actually saw my domain listed there.

...This has me excited since i am new to this industry. Im hoping to do real well.

If you are hoping to do well in this business, join me in asking the auction houses to quit charging us to try to sell our names and just do it!

Ask them to go after the end users for our names. Get them coming into the auction house in droves looking for the perfect name for their business. Then and only then will we see our names selling at a fast clip.

Everything else is smoke and mirrors.

why only 3 times on the homepage instead of 25 times?

.. well i would say now i see my listing on the homepage almost 50% of the time i go there to check. I am just saying this because i have read of people saying that they never see their's listed. so far, my couple hours of upgraded-ness have been good, imo. too bad we have to pay for these enhancements. goodkarmako, i agree, the auction houses could do more for us as they are already making 10% off all the sales. Them promoting our domains and actively searching for buyers for free would ultimately just benefit them as well since they profit off all sales anyway.
