FontLab Studio 5.0 is probably the best one. A bit expensive though :)
You can try free FontForge or Noah first, before you spend your money. You can also download FontLab Studio demo version.

FontLab offers also cheaper alternatives like TypeTool for example) for FontStudio - see here: http://fontlab.com/Font-tools/Font-Editors/

Thanks for the links,i'll check them. :)

Creating your typography in Illustrator and import them onto your fonts program is easy way. You might have some difficulties while creating your ttf fonts. Good luck with your long destination!

Development resources for fonts:
Microsoft Typography
Text & Fonts
Type Technology

Try Xara3D. I'm unsure if it's free though.

abc123ben,

Xara3D is a logos creator program, not a TTF fonts creator. :)

That's a 3d based software not a font creator program.

I remember creating my own font when i was at college, it was a lot of fun.

I used a program called Fontographer by Macromedia. It very easy to use. Im not sure if it's still going, it might have been discontinued.
