Problems with a so called collections agency.

Well I've recently have posted a thread about my problems with Globat in domain discussions about them trying to charge me for services I never even signed up for. Well the collectors told me my account there was magically closed. But the calls didn't stop coming and they call more than when my account was open. They just call and hang up and when I call them about why they keep calling me I get either hanged up on by a woman (and I know this because the first time I call she goes hold on and hangs up on me and then the second time I call she just goes hi and I speak and she hangs up and then all the other times are just clicks) and when I get a man he puts me on hold for 30 minutes wasting my cellphone minutes and comes back to say he apologizes, that no one from there should be calling me, and that my account is closed (which I already know) but the calls continue to come . I have no idea what I should do or where I should start to stop them from calling. I have a feeling calling Globat will get me no where.

If your account has, in fact, been closed/resolved, ask them to provide verification of this in writing IMHO. If they don't provide this, or they continue to call you inappropriately as decribed above ("They just call and hang up ... ") ... I'd suggest getting in touch with state authorities, in my humble view. I am unsure who you'd contact at this level, perhaps your state's Attorney General's office to start. :gl:
Caveat: This is the first time I've read on this subject ... not having seen your thread in the "Domain Discussions" Forum, referenced above.

Good Luck.

I would call my AG and try to get them to stop it. If that didnt work try a lawsuit for harrassment.

call them up without telling them who you are,
ask them for a fax number, (or get it from the web)
address it to the name or names and "their supervisor" that you have
probably collected from there - send it in writing via fax that they
have 24hrs to stop all calls. If they wish to contact you
they can do so through the mail. and If they call again,
tell them you will have a lawyer contact them!
*It is illegal for a collection agency to "harass" you.
(more than 1 call a day) or sundays, or holidays.
and if you have told them more than once to stop calling you,
and they haven't, they need to review their limitations.*
this is based on research I had done for an advocate (in Canada)
however the 1 call a day thing is pretty much the standard... IMHO
hope it helps

Well they continue to call. Twice a day and I pick up and it's nothing (I don't even get hung up on) . I'm starting to think it's a machine that calls me and when it goes to fetch my info there is nothing there. They really don't annoy me much so I don't want to do more thank having to make a couple of calls to stop it. I try to deal with the people I get on the phone and they just tell me to disregard any more calls from them and that they do not know why I keep getting called. According to these people I shouldn't be getting any calls and one guy went searching (I assume because he put me on hold 3 times) through the office to find out who was calling me and he could find no one. Numerous times I've been pushed through to other people and none of them know why I'm being called. BTW the name of the collections agency is SBC. If anyone could find me their website that would be great. I tried google and all I get is SBC communications.

I found this one, but I don't think this is
it, but they may have a collection house with the
same SBC
http://www.statebusinesscapital.com/NoIncome.html

but it sounds like your stuck in their auto-dialer, no one
seems to remember to take out the number... :!:

When they ring you put your phone on the side and go watch tv or something. They will soon stop riniging you.

My dad got calls from SBC after some scam with Sony Music. Sent a reg C and D letter to them cced to the State AG and never heard from them again. If you used globat or domainsarefree in the past you'd better check your emails.

Well it's been two days since they have called me. I think it's safe to day the calls have stopped because I used to get the calls everyday twice a day even on weekends when their offices were closed. I'm guessing that I was just stuck in their auto-dialer.

Thanks for your help guys.
