.Pro drawing competitive bids

I've had the good fortune of selling several .Pro domains on Afternic and Sedo. When presented with an otherwise reasonable offer, I still tend to favor initiating an auction, if only to raise the profile of the .Pro extension. In other words, given the arduous manner in which .Pro has thus far been rolled out to the public, I hardly expect such auctions to draw competitive bids (ie. macau.pro, reno.pro and photography.pro all sold at their respective reserve prices). The above notwithstanding, two recent auctions suggest an improving market for .Pro domains. The first auction, commenced 2/12/07, on PLAY.pro, followed from an initial bid of $1000 USD. During the auction, a second bidder entered at $1050 USD. The first bidder countered with $1200 USD, causing the auction to be extended. Sedo then entered a proxy bid on behalf of the second bidder in the amount of $1222 USD. In the end, on 2/16/07, the first bidder took the auction at $1272 USD. The second Sedo auction, on FOTO.pro, has some 19+ hours remaining as of this posting, and, IMHO, is the real charm. I began the auction on 2/15/07, following an initial bid of $3500 USD. A second bidder entered on 2/19/07, at $3600 USD. As of this morning, the bidding was up to $3800 USD. To be continued....... :)

Interesting. Would be nice to see a few more dot pro sales.

There is a small listing of .pro domain names on NameBio.com, most are strong keyword domain names. It will be interesting to see if this extension begins to do better, but at this point I believe .pro is still a very weak TLD. It has strong potential but qill require some support with major development and investment. We'll see what 2007 brings!

I am in the development planning stages right now for one of the very best generic dot PRO names ... in 2-3 month from now I plan to roll it out to the public just in time for a major sporting event. I have absolutely no intention of selling the name, maybe I will start looking for a partner, if anything. I am a very strong believer in the dot PRO TLD and I hope Encirca keeps the renewal price high, so the extension won't be flooded with junk registrations.

Where do you guys buy your .pro names from? Where can you register them at a good price from? How much are they to register?

I hope you sell a bunch more!

Of course I'm feeling good watching this market emerge from the rubble created by a lame rollout strategy, followed by a gutsy gambit by Encirca to reincarnate the extension. I'm shouting out every time I develop a .PRO site in this thread http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/263975-pro-developers-thread.html and have another coming in the next week or two.

I also put a few on http://leasethis.com site recently. As most of you, I have good generic domains, and would rather not sell cheap if I can lease cheap instead while they appreciate. Anybody else trying this, or considering this?

update: did FOTO.PRO just sell for $6100 ?

Congradulations on your sale! How much commission does Sedo charge on .pro sales?

Ouch, that's expensive for a domain. Are there any cheaper registrars than that or are all .pro usually that expensive?
