Was just browsing through .mobi auctions on SEDO and found some interesting ones. "Trademarks.mobi" is on auction, and has a bid for 2937 Euro!!, and "webmap" is there with a $1000 USD bid. "Ticketshop" is there with a 900 Euro bid, as well as "chatsite" with a $900 USD bid.

And, of course "iPhones.mobi", at $1550 USD and 26 bids.

There are a lot of others too, many more with bids that started auctions compared to the last few weeks. This is more than I've ever seen on auction.

Can't get the link to work. Go to Sedo and search for .mobi auctions.

trademarks could be a big sale if others see it ... the others are nice too

There are some names that triggered auctions that I don't think are very good. Not the ones I listed above, but some others.

I guess there's hope for my portfolio after all!

Yeah, it sound great for my portfolio too. I in the process filtering my portfolio after purchase plenty of .mobi from aftermarket.

Investment showing returns faster than I expected. :lala:

Anytime I see a name on Sedo auction that doesnt seem like it would get any offers and it only has 1 bidder then it makes me think it is a fake auction and the person had a friend or a different account make a bid so they could push it into auction. I'm not necessarily saying that the mobi names up there right now are like that but just in general. I wonder what percent of all Sedo auctions are actually fake?

^ I think we've seen ample evidence, generally and over time, of "fake bids / buyers" at Sedo ... and not just with .MOBI's IMHO. Sedo could do much more to prevent this type of activity, as well! :alien: :yell:

While the intent here and referenced Sedo auctions are interesting (and worth keeping an eye on) ... one must be careful to keep any "bids" (Sedo, or otherwise) in perspective, IMHO. Completed verifiable sales should only be used insofar as comp's, measuring, generally, one's existing portfolio and/or even future registration considerations! :gl: :imho:
The "bids" at the recent Traffic Show - all those ones that resulted in non sales and "bid" amounts curiously just under the reserve prices - recently highlighted the importance of keeping this perspective in mind, in my opinion.

Just my experience and two sense.

I agree, this is only "interesting". We can't really take these too seriously until we have evidence of actual sales. Just pointing out that there's a lot on auction right now, how they got there I can't say.

All they would need to do to prevent this is make the bidder put up a deposit, actually authorize their credit card for a percentage of the "bid". If they are outbid, then the charge gets credited back. If they are the only bidder, then they would basically be forced to make the purchase, or forfit the deposit.

Would solve a lot of this problem, IMHO.

As long as the "charging authorization" is maintained at SEDO and not posted with the credit card companies immediately after every bid. Multiple unsuccessful bidders on all those domains would generate too many uneccessary chargebacks for the credit card companies.

I too am sick of the non-performing auction bidders (my experience having been for names in other extensions). The auction sites should definitely really DO something about it. Maybe a $100-$200 deposit that goes to the name owner should the winning bidder not-perform his contractual obligation as high bidder.

Ok, I see what you're getting at. Better yet, what they should do is take a one time deposit, say $200, from anyone who wants to bid on any domain. That deposit lasts the lifetime of their Sedo experience. If they ever default on a sale, they have that $200 as leverage to get that buyer to pay up.

Maybe after a year or two of living up to their contractual obligations and building a history, the deposit could be returned.

Then CC's don't need to be authorized each time, just one time when you register as a buyer.

THAT would all but eliminate any shill bidding.

You know, it's really too bad because the setup that SEDO has is so good. You can park your domains, and if they get nice traffic the stats show up, you get an offer, and you can send it to auction to be seen by thousands of buyers.

Perfect system.....except for these possible shenanigans with the bidding.
