Pregnancy Wisdom (dot) com - Someone wants to buy this from me =)

Hey guys - I've exchanged a few emails with someone who is interested in buying this domain from me. I am not sure how much to sell it at. They have asked me to give them a price, but I do not want to scare them off or sell for too low either.

What do you think would be a great selling price? I actually purchased this domain with intentions to develop it myself eventually, but I've had it for about a year now and did nothing since I had some other sites higher on my priority list.

I definately want to sell, but for the right price. So what do you think it is worth to someone who wants it?

Many thanks for your advice!

Pregnancy Wisdom (dot) com

also, a timely response would REALLY be appreciated, as I would like to get back to the interested party as soon as possible.

thanks again.

Just make sure they don't ask you to get an appraisal.

I look at things from a development point of view (what's a domain if there isn't a website) so I think if you look at it that way the domain has lots of potential.

Estibot: $30 USD
Nameboy: $1774 USD
Me: Somewhere in between.

PregnancyWisdom.com

.net .org .info .biz .us all available

555 google results for "Pregnancy Wisdom"

There is a book sold on the internet called "Fearless Pregnancy: Wisdom ...."

This book is the source of some of the 555 google results for "Pregnancy Wisdom"

Really nothing extra special about this name, if I owned this i would try to get at least $200 for it just because your contact seems intrested enough in it. Did you ask what this person wanted to do with this name? The answer can help you price it if the person is honest.

I think low $x,xxx
it is all depends on how long you are willing to wait...
sometimes you need to turn down a lot of $xxx offers, just to get one $x,xxx
in this forum, on a domain like this one you will get appraisals from mid xx to mid x,xxx.

Usually low-end dotcoms such as this one go for $1,000-$2,000 in end user sales. Reseller value for this one is not much, maybe mid $xx-low $xxx now that we know there is buyer interest, but a motivated end-user is a different thing. Retail price is always higher, as with any goods/services.

Without any knowledge of your purchase price, the current bidder etcetera, I'd probably ask for $2k and be willing to negotiate. Just have to decide, what is the absolute lowest price you are willing to part with this one for? Ask 2x that and start negotiating, as a rough rule of thumb

Good luck

Anything in four figures will probally scare your customer away, its true you have to turn down three figure offers to sell in the four figures range, but on the other hand you sound like you want to unload this name. It may be a while before you get another offer. Try $500-800, its high enough to give you a good profit for a name that you seem to say is only about a year old and has VERY small data numbers. A $500-800 price will still give the person room to counter offer if thier on a budget with this project. Think hundreds not thousands.

I agree with what johname has said mid $xxx - high $xxx is the correct end user price for this type of name, if you haven't invested anything signficantly in the name. Will give you decent profit as well.

Honestly... I almost always ask for a few thousand dollars. Sure I scare some of them away, but if they were serious about buying it, we ususally work something out. Frankly, I think the domain is just ok, but if you struck the right nerve with the end-user they just might be willing to pay the bigger $,$$$

Good luck, let us know how it goes. Im sure others would love to learn from your successes and mistakes.

BTW - here is a thread I wrote about Inquiry and Responses a few months back. I think its quite helpful.

Spade, I read your thread and it was very informational, thank you! I tried to give you rep, but i guess I have already in the past. lol

just for a little background info, the end user contacted me a couple days ago by finding my email address in the who is. They indicated that they have a few other domains in mind, but that this is their top choice since it "flows the best". It would be used for a website offering a new service to pregnant women.

Before i wrote back, I tried to find some information on the individual, however I was not able to come up with anything. Their email was just something@gmail and google search did not return any results. But thinking that they have a new service to offer made me think that this person must have a decent amount of money to spend on this domain, so I started at low $x,xxx. Perhaps I made the mistake of not forcing them to make the first offer. .... ohwell. I hope they write back with a counter offer. How long should I give them to respond? If I dont hear back would you suggest that I contact them again?

I would wait atleast 8-9 days. Be patient and dont come off desperate to sell. Give them a solid week to make a decision. If you've not heard back, I might suggest either trying to get a hold of them by telephone (if possible) or emailing them back, letting them know if they care to act before a specific date, you'd be inclined to discount the domain name.

This will usually entice the buyer if they are teetering. It also lets them know your willing to play "ball" just a bit.

There "new service" may just be trying to get visitors to click on pregnancy links. PregnancyWisdom has the sound of PregnancyTips. If you hear from them again it may be after new years. Plus if there looking at other names they may want to hear from those people too. PregnancyWisdom.net is available the last time i looked, it an option for them if there really on a budget lol

It won't help because you can't edit the title....but don't worry too much. Your strategy is legitimate, and the domainers who have posted in this thread agree that your name is worth hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars in the retail market.

I practically never sell my dotcoms for less than $1k in the retail market, regardless of if it's a $7 hand reg or not. Just not worth my while.

Simple calculation will show you why. Say I sell a hand reg for $1,007.

$1,007 sale price
-$7 reg fee
-$220 value added tax
-------------------------
profit $780

-Capital tax 29% of company profit $226
----------------------------------------------
Profit after tax $554

As 50% shareholder I take my cut in annual dividends
My dividend $200
Minus capital tax $58
-------------------------
My personal profit from this sale $142.00, and even that's an imaginary number. Somewhere I should have deducted costs such as accounting, insurance, materials (computer, internet connection...) and so on and so forth.

Realistically, my profit is about $100.

So I've made about $100 from this $1k domain sale. Only worth my while if I put less than about 2 hours of work into the whole process of finding, regging, marketing, selling, transfering the domain.

That's the way I see it anyway..

I think you did the right thing. you should wait for 10 days, but if they don't get back to you and you decide to contact them be ready to cut your price to mid/high $xxx
a year ago I had a potential buyer for one of my names, and I asked $1000.
he didn't get back to me with a counter offer, and I decided to do nothing. last month I got an email from him asking if the domain is still for sale, and if I'll take $500...I told him him the domain is still for sale, but that the price is still $1000... the transaction was done in 48 hours.
I knew my price, and I didn't ask $2500 just to get $1000.
the buyer knew that my price is reasonable and that I'm not in a rush to sell.
one last (but very important) thing:
I don't have a problem holding 99% of my names for a few years, and even more...I look at them as my retirement plan :)

well i have not yet heard back and its been about 9 days, so I just sent another email since I have not been able to find a phone number. lowered my asking price quite a bit and suggested the use of escrow.com.

hope it goes well...
