Potential Buyer with only gmail address

Here is the question for domain sellers...

Do you respond with domain pricing if the potential buyer request comes from a free email account with no individual name or other contact info...

What have been your response...

I normally just delete these emails, unless it is perfectly written and signed with a full name and that the email looks natural to me.

What does it hurt to respond?

It takes only a minute of your time and it may result in a sale.
Send the sender an realistic asking price and see what happens from there.

I have sold more than 10 names inc a big deal by responsing some rough enquiry emails with gmail,hotmail or yahoo. It won't take much time for you to reply, but it does bring you a sale opportunity. You know many potential buyers do wanna hide their real status to avoid overpriced counter offer.

I do suggest you have a try next time unless it is a common appraisal spam letter :p

I did reply to the buyer...

I have sold names directly to companies/individuals who did not hide their identity. Majority of my sales have been that way.

Have to see how this one goes, will keep you posted.

It is perfectly normal for a potential buyer to withold information about themselves.

I would never send such an E-mail from my [email protected] address :p

I got offers from hotmails , gmails buyers, and I sold some.
It doesnt mean that they are not potential buyers.
Once I even discovered that a domain I sold to an hotmail buyer , was a big company...
They used this trick to get low prices...

For the most part - I use my Gmail for everything except payments. I'd say johntv is correct though pertaining to most serious buyers and sellers. In fact - anytime i have replied to a "free" email offer , I've actually added more money to my prices if anything - many companies and buyers use the free accounts to get a deal ...

If you want to be taken serious - Do yourself a favor and include all of your real info the first time .... I even include my profile link to NP Buyers and sellers feel more comfortable with someone they can place a reputation / profile with.

After reading all the posts here, maybe I should also reply to any offers from Gmail and other free email accounts :hehe:

My experience is not very good as I used to reply to every single email and got always low ball offers or even people bringing up TM issues while the name was as generic as possible.

I made two sales recently and they were from serious company emails, so I decided to save some time and only react on serious email addresses, but I will reconsider this now

more and more people are using freemail providers as their default email provider, well at least Gmail which is changing the height of the acceptability bar.
