On another forum, members always complain/ comment when the seller posts the domain in the sales thread/ title. They claim it should be in image format. Is there any truth to that? I notice most domain sales here have the domains simply posted...

Different forum, different rules!
I like seeing the domain name in title, so I know what I am bidding on...
A title like "Premium Domain" Auction doesn't tell me much and a waste of my time if not a domain that I am interested in.

This is a truly good practice. Coming from SEO forums, i'm surprised how it's accustomed here and on other domain forums to post plain domain names. It's always good to post them as images of to obfuscate somehow, like " domain\.com " or " domain (*) com " for example. Why? To not let Google record the fact of this domain being on sale. The reason is simple: when someone buys a domain for his real business or website, the last thing he wants is to find later that this domain was once on sale on some SEO or domainers forum. So my attitude is : we should respect our buyers and defend their interests. I never post domain names in a plain form.
