Hello fellow NPers, :santa:

I have asked this question before without much luck. What I would like is your input into a free open source PHP5 Ajax based community forum I am currently developing. I did some research and noticed that nearly all current solutions still use PHP4 and quite a few are actually coded pretty poorly (poor commenting, naming and sloppy code in general). What I aim to do is release a lightweight but powerful solution that is easy to use for both developers and users.

My question to you is what features do you want to see in a new forum solution. What do you think is missing from current open source solutions like SMF, MyBB, phpBB and so on.

I plan on making it usable by maintaining a default structure that users will be familiar with and also very easy to configure, rss syndication, seo friendly and pretty much the basic useful stuff. What else should there be?

Security, security and security... and updates to keep it secure.

Those issues pretty much keep me away from most free forum scripts.

Yes I prioritize security no matter what I am developing. It is a massive factor. Don't worry I will keep on top of that for sure. Thank you for your input! :santa:
